Yeah the Dell with a proper DVI feed is excellent and right up there with the Apple equivalent minus the apple price.

It has to stay 720×480 no matter what you do.
Its just the pixel ratio of 0.9 or 1.2 that makes the picture anamorphic.
ikarus79m the only thing that can be done, is to bring your footage into an after effects Widescreen 1.2 comp and decide to crop or not or scale or not from there.
There is no other option available if you want it anamorphic.

the only way I could think to do this is, open after effects,
load a 720×480 DV Widescreen (1.2) comp (anamorphic is what it is)
then load your footage and size it until the right and left edge
are on the edge of the comp.If it happens to crop it thats the way it is. There is no other way
to do it short of cropping a little if it does crop. -

To be honest, there is absolutely nothing that is “limiting” about Scenarist.
It IS the gold standard for DVD authoring.
I do know that the documentation is not very good though.

The only way I know of to do this is to use canopus procoder, but its pc only.
If the material is not commercial (ie content protected) I might be able to
do the conversion for you fair price. I’ve done 2 or 3 pal to ntsc conversions and they turned out very nice and original looking.send me an email for details if your interested.

one last thing, the HDCAM footage was 1080P and the client had to have it at 720P so that resizing probably added to the overall compression time as well.

Tsunami and Canopus Procoder both can.
But Procoder does it SO MUCH better.
I just encoded some HDCAM footage to transport streams using both.
The client wanted the low bitrate D-VHS standard of 14.1 mbps.
There was a lot of motion on this footage with quick pans and zooms.
Tsunami was completely unable to encode the footage at that rate. It took a 36 mbps rate (blu-ray 1x maximum) to be able to encode the footage and keep it looking nice during the fast motion.
Procoder however, handled it like a champ. The original footage looks just as good at 14.1 as a transport stream then as its source file.
For reference The HDCAM footage was 40 minutes long and took about 33 hours to encode on a P4 2.5GHZ system with 1GB Ram. I had it on “highest quality” just above mastering quality. I suspect it could have been on a lower setting and still maintain a good image.
The final size of the mpeg2 transport stream was 4.1GB
