[JP Pelc] “- Don’t edit too much H.264. While Premiere can handle it, it’s an inter-frame codec, meaning most frames are referencing another frame 4 or 5 away. This adds to the processing needs. While it’s probably too late for this project, future projects with a decent amount of DSLR footage should have it converted to ProRes 422 before going into Premiere.”

I’m not so sure about that.

I have not had any problems with any codec in the last 2 years of using Premiere,
    including H264 footage.

If you have a slower/older system sure, but a fast raid on a recent macpro tower
and a quadro 4000 gpu seems to churn right through it in my experience.

A few of my clients are web deliverable only and I too noticed that
in the interlaced export, but that can easily be fixed.

If you need an h.264 without the interlace artifacts, all you have to
do in the export settings, is change the interlaced setting to progressive.

and the capture utility built into premiere was overhauled greatly
as of CC version. (capture as prores on a mac for example)

    Works great.

I’ve had some HUGE messes come in which were daisy chained from 3 or 4 separate external USB2 drives.
Which all had to be connected to work and re-link media to.

    What a nightmare.

    Don’t be “that guy” 😉

  • update:

Thought it was good but the Kona3G doesn’t do reverse pull-down,
so it had to be ran through a Teranex.

[Tim Kolb] “FLVs have been un-importable compression in AME since CS6”

I’m pretty sure I’ve imported and converted .flv files with the MAC versions
    of AME CS6 and CC.

something in the exporter setting seems different than the setting in media encoder.

It should export it anamorphic (stretch to fill)

I wonder if it’s a bug in cc 2014. I heard an update is coming since
AME CC 2014 has an h.264 issue to be resolved.

ya scaling is great. one of the things final cut pro was never able to do.

also as of CS6 or CC you can just bring in go pro footage without needing
to convert it…plays great as is.

  • disregard/never mind.

I just dropped it in a 24P premiere cc sequence and it plays back perfect.

July 21, 2014 at 4:26 pm in reply to: How to make a DCP

I’ve successfully done one with opendcp and about to do another this week.

I did a 30 minute HD documentary to DCP and this is how long things took to do
    on a 2009 macpro 8 core with 16gb ram

encode time: 3 hrs 45 min
compile time: files to package 15 min
copy to pc time: 5 min
copy to ext3, USB Hard Disk media time: 45 min
    dcp_inspect time: 1 hr 10 min

for max compatibility I recommend to package it with Interop instead of SMPTE
and copy the dcp to an EXT3 formated drive with an inode of 128.
