I have one set of speakers (Bose) that have two switchable inputs. My deck is plugged into the “A” input and the computer is plugged into the “B” input. There is a knob on one of the speakers that allows me to pan between the two sources. Both are always active.

Edirol makes a heaftier (and more expensive) unit with XLR, otherwise, check out Marantz.

I don ‘t know that any of them have timecode. Maybe the Sony, which is quite expensive.

I’d recommend any of the Flash Card recorders that are available from several major manufacturers. I have two Edirol units that I love. They record up to 24-bit Wave files to a Compact Flash card and I rip the files directly to the computer.

It just occurred to me that maybe I should try re-installing FCP 5.1. I don’t think I really gained anything from 5.1.2. Will FX9 do transitions in 5.1 on an Intel Mac?

My point was that his problem may be confined to the particular version of Toast he is using. Older versions are available elsewhere, including E-Bay right now. Just trying to get at the root of the man’s troubles.

Every single disc I have burned for the past several years has been with Toast 5.2, and, other than the known issues with 2-pass Variable in Compressor 2.0, I can count the problems on one hand. I never saw the need to upgrade to a newer version of Toast. Perhaps that was a good decision.
