The files should be in a folder labeled BPAV, and that folder should reside inside another folder. If that’s the case, you’ll need the Sony XDCAM Transfer software to convert the files for FCP use. If it’s not in that configuration, you’ll need to have your client re-submit it exactly the way it comes off the cards, or, better yet, as Quicktime EX clips that have been processed by the Transfer software.

For me, interlaced footage looks a bit softer than progressive when downconverted to SD-DVD.

I believe you are thinking of the Transcend Class 6 cards. I looked way back and could not find any mention of a SanDisk Ultra II Class 6. They started as Class 4, then went to Class 2 (which I bought) and now I guess they are back to Class 4 again.

I wasn’t aware there was ever a Sandisk Class 6, 16gb card. Did you mean the Class 2?

I have not used Encore, but I have had some compatibility issues with certain players, when playing discs that were created in Toast with menus. Have menus been a problem with Encore as well? Is that way you suggest creating a play-only disc?

What you should be looking for is the SDHC Class 6.

When it comes to Blu-Ray, you are limited to MPEG2, if you are encoding with Compressor.
