    Hey Jim,

How are things going down South?

Yea, I was really impressed and psyched with using Motion 2 with these elements. I’m cutting a half hour series and all the graphic elements were made in AE by a great designer. But obviously we would have the adjust the lengths or change the names in the lower 3rds. Me and the assistants got tired of exporting a dozen QT from AE. I opened up Motion and tried to recreate the elements and I was totally surprised that it only took me 15 minutes to recreate each one. Some only took 1 minute!

And now we LOVE the round tripping of Motion and FCP. It’s great! No more QT exports – almost instant updating. Now I wish I can search for Soundtrack Pro sfx from within FCP.

    See you around soon!

I was able to recreate the AE projects in Motion. I took all of about 15 minutes. Very Cool.

  • Set your ganging to OPEN. Middle tic-tac button on top of the canvas window. Set your view to the filters tab and it will open every clip your playhead lands on.

I’ve become a big fan of the Dells. Not as pretty but for around $550 for a 20″ and a 24″ for just over $1000. It’s a great buy. As if you have an NTSC monitor for critical preview, it’s completely safe to edit with an LCD.

Check out dealmac.com and search for dell lcd.

    Also…

    2. Like above, when I am moving the DVE around I like to increment precise values. I realize you can drag with mouse and enter exact values in box paramaters, but I’d like to use the scroll wheel on my mouse, or +/- buttons or some other way
to tweak and fine tune. This is especially nagging in the Distort function trying to corner pin shots into monitors.

Point your mouse over a slider and use to scroll wheel to adjust that slider incrementally.

    7. Although Live Type and Motion seem like great little standalone apps. Why not have them more integrated into FCP. There is alot of back and forth between programs. ( Probably just me again.)

Are you using the round trip procedure properly?

Drop your Motion or Livetype project file in the FCP timeline. And it shows up like a normal clip. Right click on it, and select open in editor. That Motion or Livetype project will open up and you can make your changes. Save it, Cmd-Tab back to FCP, and now that Motion/Livetype clip is updated with your changes. That’s a pretty tight integration!!! Curious to hear what you would rather have?
