I would definitely recommend you get the Avid freeDV. It will get you used to the Avid icons and work flows. Also for training, go to the Avid website and check out their on-line training called ALEX.

Video color White to Black is 16-235 (601)
Computer color White to Black is 0-255 (RGB)I think you’ve got this backwards. Video is RGB (16-235) and computer is 601 (0-255). So if you are importing a 601 computer graphic, you want to select RGB to have the file adjusted for video. If it’s already in an RGB color space of 16-235, select 601 so that Avid won’t adjust it further. However, for a matt, you want to leave that in 601 space so select 601 when importing so that it is not adjusted to RGB space, or else you won’t get a clean key.

[nateboston] “You wouldn’t happen to know how to set a default timeline timecode start time, would you? So when I open Avid with a new project, the timecode will automatically start at 00:58:00:00 as instead of 00:00:30:00?”
Go to the project window and click on the settings tab. Then select “general” and enter the time code you want into the window that says “default starting timecode”. From then on just right click in the record window and select “get sequence info” if you ever want to change the starting timecode from the default.

It worked! Thank you so much. You do have to go to advanced, then dual head tab, then features, then dual head display, then select or in my case de-select dual head multi-display, then apply and re-start.
Thanks again!

Sounds like an interesting concept [nateboston] “But what do you think of Intercutting the two idea’s together? For example, the piece starts with a :15sec montage, but on the last video clip the music drops and all of a sudden you are in a scene from a fully edited video? As the scene comes to a close, you fade to black then quickly back to another short montage. The next montage would preface the next fully edited video clip (so if the next clip was about sailing, the montage would be a bunch of sailing/ocean images). Then back to black and so forth.”
Sounds like an interesting idea, certainly unique I would think. Give it a go!

OK, so I’m replying to my own post. When I powered off my deck everything turned green again.
Oy!

I agree with Shane 100%. That being said, in addition to my “reel” of excerpts from shows I have cut, I have a musical montage style promo of me on my website as well.

Thanks P-Boy, I figured that was what you get. BTW, where can I find that broadcast safe limiter effect?

Got it! Thank goodness, I thought I was becoming a vegetable! I was looking in the wrong place entirely. Mine only display on still frames, not with moving picture. Is that how it goes? I see why you need external scopes.

I don’t see a hidden triangle dropdown with these options on my home Xpress Pro. I will look for it on my Xpress at work.
Thanks,
