January 6, 2012 at 6:07 pm in reply to: HDV to SD-DVD render looks too soft

    Hi again, Mike:

Just a follow-up on the render: Yep…looks mucho better!!
For grins, I experimented with different bitrates (VBR & CBR) 2-pass, etc. Settled for a higher bitrate and found the results to be much better than the default.

I was wondering if there’s a “handshake” between Vegas Pro NLE & the Architect? I see in TOOLS that there’s some way to render to DVD & BlueRay. When I clicked on the DVD, I got the message that my (HDV) edit files were “too large”. (Duh!) I was thinking there might’ve been a “Smart-Render” pop-up after that but none as far as my experience was concerned. Just thinking it would be handy if that were the case.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks,

    Chas

    Hi Nigel:

Yep, I move the slider all the way over too and render at Best project settings. Those are the only settings I adjust (for now) and I was just surprised at how soft everything still came out to look.

January 4, 2012 at 2:19 am in reply to: Aspect Ratio Issue on Renders

FWIW: I discovered what was causing the aspect ratio issue. When editing imported pics, I use the PAN/CROP TOOL to match the project output (16:9). Whenever I playback a preview, everything looks fine in the display on the timeline. BUT…when I render out, many times the imported stills have black on the edges.

After going back and forth double & triple checking my PAN/CROP TOOL settings, etc. I discovered that by going in the PROPERTIES of EACH STILL PIC, I UNCLICKED the MAINTAIN ASPECT RATIO, figuring that this may have some affect. It sure did because everything worked fine when I rendered out.

    again, FWIW!

Steve: Thanks for posting the Video4YouTube info. I’ve found it to be a real time-saver and snap to use. The only thing I’ve run into however is that when uploading higher-quality renders (720p+)… I seem to get Error / Upload Aborted messages after the file supposedly get’s uploaded. When I check the YouTube account, the file shows up but as an unprocessed video.

Have you run into that issue and if so, any workarounds? Most of the lower quality renders (480p and less) get uploaded without problems.
Could be my ISP is flaking out but the status bar shows the progress go to 100% uploaded and then Error/Abort message.

    Thanks!

  • Update on my upgrade. Contacted customer support via e-mail on Sony website, explained my situation and about 2 weeks later got an e-mail authorizing my “free upgrade” to Pro 11. 🙂 I had bought Pro 10 about a month +/- before the release so I’m a happy camper.
Paid for S/H and got a hard copy along with the new Pro Titler.

    Thanks for the tip, Mike!

Thanks for the post John, I’ll check it and test. But for the record, there are other pics that came from the same still camera, shot the same and imported at the same time from the SD and they are rendering fine. I don’t really understand why these odd shots are getting the black lines on the side.

My project settings are HDV 1440 X 1080, I import HDV and output DVD Widescreen (standard def) 720 by 480. Most everything looks fine.

I’ll check the H/W/pixel aspect ratio and see. But if all still images are the same to begin with and are resized / cropped using the Pan/Crop tool (Match Output) with most being fine and others less so. Why the difference?

    Thanks,
