NEVERMIND… I had one of the WB settings selected which was 6500K. Once I “thumbwheeled” to a A or B setting… I entered the MENU and saw that the WB SET was “ACTIVE”. So if you have a pre-set selected using the Thumbwheel…this WB SET Menu feature won’t be accessible. Weird.

Thanks for your post. FWIW….I wrote to Sony asking about the XAVC-Long Gop / MXF issue and below is what they wrote back, indicating that the issue has been addressed.:
Thank you for contacting Sony Creative Software.
Yes, Vegas Pro 13 should be able to read XAVC-Long GOP files from the PXW-X70. You may see some conflicting information on this topic because the X70 previously had a problem with its firmware that caused XAVC-L files to record improperly, making them unusable in Vegas. This has since been resolved by a camera firmware update, which I strongly recommend you apply. Vegas Pro 13 has also received a recent update to allow it to read the problem files created by the X70 before its firmware update, so you should be covered on both fronts.
I recommend downloading the full-featured free trial of any software you’re interested in buying prior to making a purchasing decision. The free trial will allow you to evaluate the software for 15 days and ensure it meets your needs and runs on your system before you place an order.
Sincerely,
Guy D.

Good to know! What about Sony Vegas Pro 13? I know some folks using the Sony Alpha say they’re able to use XAVC but it’s a MP4 wrapper …the PXW-X70 is MXF wrapper and no one on the Sony website forum seems to be able to import to Sony Vegas Pro 13, even with camera update.

Good to know. I was wondering though that your camera is in an MP4 wrapper instead of MXF (which the PXW-X70 uses) makes a difference?
Just curious.

Thanks again for the reply. I haven’t considered the power supply as a possibility. It’s an ANTEC 620 watts so it’s big enough but it might be a cause to consider. I’m just wondering if the eSata port or maybe even the cable is the issue as the USB connection works without fail. Slower but at least it’s working. I’ll see if I can get a spare eSata cable and go from there.
Thanks again.

Thanks for replying to my post. Some drives are about half-full, I have one 1.5Tb drive that has about 400Gb remaining. One drive that was acting up won’t even show up on MY COMPUTER window… it just shows a F: but no longer has the capacity status. I know it had under 500Gb on a 1.5Gb Seagate drive.
When I click on the PROPERTIES, it shows it fully blue (loaded) and that’s impossible. Not sure what to make of all this. I’ve quit using the eSata port and am using USB 2.0 which seems to help. I have two drives that launch “Check Disk” dialogue. I’ve run only one but after Check Disk funs, it says “Not enough space” to repair / recover. This drive is 1.5Gb and has 300Gb unused space.

Thx for responses. I did do some tweaking in the SVP preferences and W7OS which has helped a lot. But I’m still having issues with the titler changing drop-shadow color in render and not rendering jpgs. Freaky stuff.
I’m hoping I can get a clean render from this short proj today and will be re-installing SVP10 today. Weird, weird stuff. 🙁

Great reply Dave! Thanks for the comprehensive info!!
I’m in the early stages of getting more acquainted with the Canon Raw Video options… it’s not perfect and it does seem to take a bit of pre-thought regarding workflows. But the price-performance of taking a pro-sumer camera like the T3i and using Magic Lantern to create Raw Video in the quality levels I’ve seen is pretty effing amazing!!
But…even before I got interested in the Raw video option, I was looking at Adobe Cloud as more and more clients I interface with have expressed Adobe Premiere, etc… As much as I like Sony Vegas Pro, I feel I can’t ignore the market push any longer. And since Premiere does feature a somewhat seemless way to use Raw Video… just makes the pull even easier on my decision to look that way.I’ve come to the conclusion that Sony still has the BetaMax DNA lingering in their corporate psyche … thinking customers will conform to their software and quirks. One of the things that got me using Sony Vegas Pro (starting with SVP6) was the ease of codec import… you’d think with such a huge customer base using T3i, etc….they’d have something in place to exploit that.
This segues me into another observation which has been debated here before as to why SVP hasn’t been embraced in the corporate/creative world as much as other products. I think it’s because Sony hasn’t really dedicated enough effort towards that goal really. Vegas was an “acquired product” from a 3rd party and has been pretty much left to being improved on a limited basis when compared with other products.
I don’t think I’ll abandon SVP anytime soon but I have to say that the integrated paths by Adobe are hard to ignore. Some can argue about subscription services but I’m at the point where I am looking at price-performances and workflows. Vegas has been good but not great and I’m seeing a need more and more to strongly consider other options.
