[Oliver Peters] “These were all cleaned up when I did the release install and got rid of the CC2014 versions.”

Anyone know if there’s a way to remove old versions after the fact? reinstall 2015? As I like to do, I updated in mid-project and frankly, am having some… issues. Audio related, and no show-stoppers, but I’d be happy if they went away. Maybe having old versions installed is the problem…

[Paul Neumann] “”Everybody here uses Adobe.”

what’s your point? You could have done he same thing in X.

FD, just updated Pr mid-job. oops. Some interesting new audio playback, uh… issues.

[Aindreas Gallagher] “why is it, you might wonder, that roughly two thirds of the people boosting X are trying to sell something and the other third sound like they’ve drank something.”

lol. Surprisingly, there are a lot of people using X who don’t post about it at all. They just, you know, use it.

[Walter Soyka] “No. Metal is an Apple-branded, platform-specific GPU API. Metal will not do anything for apps that are not specifically written for Metal. “

True, but from what I can glean (and understand lol) it is a very nice API

[Walter Soyka] “It will be likewise with El Capitan, unless/until Ae adopts GPU acceleration [link].

I’ll go out on a limb with a WAG and say they will adopt it. Perhaps not right away, but they will. 🙂

[Jeremy Garchow] “but it’s still very much like a RAM preview. I still can’t play a file back in real time.”

Apple has apparently fixed that for Adobe with Metal in 10.11. I hope they thank them. 🙂

[Herb Sevush] “PPro has had major revisions in the last few years, so I’m OK with nothing much going on this year, but let’s face it, nothing much is going on.”

I have to agree here on all points. And not while wearing my “I Like FCP X way better” hat either. 😉 They fixed at least one bug that could reliably crash the app, so that’s nice, but it’s really pretty much the same old same old. Which is fine. It works.

June 5, 2015 at 9:25 pm in reply to: Renaming in FCPX and finding the File name

[Sony Sasankan] “I looked at the Info panel and saw there was no mention of the original file name.”

There is a way to apply a custom name to clips including the filename, not my forte though. In the meantime, in the Inspector info pane, you can add the Filename to view list by choosing Edit Metadata View from the bottom left drop down menu. At least that’ll give you a place to look. I’m sure there’s a way to get that info into the browser so it’s searchable, I just don’t do it enough to know what it is…

Seems to work OK, but It really needs a major UI overhaul. Aqua buttons? yikes…

Well, two types of things to deal with… the most common is adware that hijacks your browsers etc. for that I use Adware Medic. Great app.https://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php

for basic antivirus to run now and again, i use ClamXav. Free, and very good… https://www.clamxav.com

May 31, 2015 at 3:38 am in reply to: FCP 10.1 transition plug ins

[Sherril Schlesinger] “but haven’t seen anything comparable for X.”

As noted, there are *tons* of transitions for X. In addition all those mentioned by others… fcpeffects.com has some pretty good stuff, and Fox Mahoney has some really cool, and free, stuff here: https://www.youtube.com/user/fxmah

That said, the only 2 transitions you should ever use are dip to color, and a dissolve. 😉
