[Kathy Murphy] “You don’t have to delete them. You just switch from proxy to optimised.”

Exactly. Do your cut/grading, etc. in proxy mode. When you’re done, flip the switch to optimized and export. Any rendering will need to be redone for playback if necessary, but if you’re just exporting at that point you don’t need to.

[Mike Schrengohst] “I did notice they have a 10.2.1 ver now?”

The bug you are describing has supposedly been fixed in 10.2.1. You can zip your current version of FCP X and then update. 10.2.1 updates Libraries when you open ’em, so make copies of your libraries as well and open the copies. If everything is fine then off you go. If something is screwy just trash the new app, unzip the old, and go back to work on your original Libraries. Should be fine though…

[Aindreas Gallagher] “Charlie Austin] “Seriously, I’ll cut different spots in a couple NLE’s and CMD-TAB from one to another. Sure, there’s the occasional KB shortcut mixup, but it’s really no big deal.”

I’m not sure how that could be true.”

    Well, it is.

[Mark Suszko] “Similarly, sailboats that use a tiller teach you to push left to get right rudder.”

Same with riding a motorcycle (and a bicycle actually), push right, turn left and vice-versa…

May 19, 2015 at 9:42 pm in reply to: Are NLEs like bicycles?

[Andrew Kimery] ” alternated riding a normal bike and a backwards bike on a regular basis would he always go through a ‘re-learning’ stage or could riding both bikes become second nature?”

    It’s second nature.

I literally do the NLE analog of this every day. I cut stuff in 7 and Pr and X concurrently. X because I prefer it, 7 and/or Pr to more easily swap sequences with other folks here who are clinging to 7. That’s right, I said clinging. 😉 I’m still looking for a good reason to cut in MC, which I own, but it’s not my fave and nobody here uses uses it so I’m neglecting that one…

Seriously, I’ll cut different spots in a couple NLE’s and CMD-TAB from one to another. Sure, there’s the occasional KB shortcut mixup, but it’s really no big deal.

lol… oddly enough, a tiny thing I unnecessarily did with 3D text should soon be visible in millions of households across the US next week…

[David Mathis] “While the image quality is sufficient a Bolex H16 camera would have been my choice.”

    or this…

[Nick Toth] “I’m not too happy about the smaller text window and I’ve contacted FCP X Feedback with the idea of adding a text entry HUD.”

Agreed, I find myself doing more text entry/tweaking in the viewer now. I like the HUD idea. Actually a lot of stuff in X would benefit from being moved to HUD’s.
