No replies yet… man, this is bumming me out. Light Rays is such a useful transition option.

Might also consider SnapzPro. Allows for 10-bit uncompressed captures.

  • Typically the slate includes:

ISCI Code (Industry Standard Coding Identification)
    Spot Name

Date, usually the completion date for that particular spot or revision

No, god no. I’m using an 800GB Xserve RAID.

We just switched over to an Xsan from an Xserve RAID. With the RAID I had some problems, mostly with dropped frames during digitization (SDI, Dual 2G G5, etc.) and inconsistent insert edits with ETT (which may have been FCP 4.5 related). Initially, we had severe sync issues that traced back to the RAID, and toward the end I had to digitize all my 10-bit stuff to a local drive and then transfer it. The RAID wouldn’t allow any 10-bit material to import without dropping frames or stalling the batch capture. It may have been solvable, but once you’ve got 600GB of stuff already on it it’s a little diffiicult to troubleshoot without losing it all. So, since we we’re expanding anyway, we just set up an Xsan network and sold the RAID.

Judging from what everyone else has said about the Xserve, I think mine might have been cursed.

Yes, earlier versions of FCP were totally inconsistant when performing an ETT or any other type of insert-edit. For more than a year about 50% of my masters had to be relaid-off, because my ETT would end being a single frame late. 2-pops would hit at ..:58;01 and first picture at ….00;01. Never dropped any frames, but never really reliable when it came to hitting the 00 mark. Strangely, my Bars & Tone always started frame-accurate at 00:58:30;00, but would still invariably be a frame late by the time it reached countdown. Since upgrading I haven’t had a problem (fingers crossed, knock on wood, salt over the shoulder, etc.).

Now if I could just get a handle on the RT hiccuping I’d be golden.

  • Yeah, but we’re not even editing anything yet. The error message pops up as FCP is launched. Once a project is open, the playback compression codecs (among others) are listed as (missing) -when looking at the A/V settings. If I try to force select another codec a second error message appears – “Error: no memory!”

Hopefully Aja Support will be able to walk me through it and figure out the variable I missed.

Yes, I really am this stupid. Didn’t realize that the master clips defaulted to just a V1 range without an audio channel to sync to. Darn MOS transfer masters!
