    Hello to all:

I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem:

I am outputting a 50min NTSC show to DBeta from FCP 4.5 and have been having a problem of it outputting the sequence 1 frame short. Here is a quick explanation:

I output the show (50:00;00TRT) on the hour (01:00:00;00) of a DBeta. The show actually ends at 49:49;28, not at 49:49;29. And yes, I have checked to make sure that the show started at the right frame. The frame slip actually starts right in the beginning of the show. If for example the first cut should be at 1 second into the show (01:00:00;29), on the tape it is at (01:00:00;28).

This is a very strange problem that I know other post houses in town have had issues with as well…but no explanation and no real solution.

If anyone has any good insights please, please, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

FCP 4.5 is not completely frame accurate as I learned during testing for an HD series. It will slip a frame or two during mastering.

FCP 5.0 appears to have fixed this issue.

Yes, earlier versions of FCP were totally inconsistant when performing an ETT or any other type of insert-edit. For more than a year about 50% of my masters had to be relaid-off, because my ETT would end being a single frame late. 2-pops would hit at ..:58;01 and first picture at ….00;01. Never dropped any frames, but never really reliable when it came to hitting the 00 mark. Strangely, my Bars & Tone always started frame-accurate at 00:58:30;00, but would still invariably be a frame late by the time it reached countdown. Since upgrading I haven’t had a problem (fingers crossed, knock on wood, salt over the shoulder, etc.).

Now if I could just get a handle on the RT hiccuping I’d be golden.
