  • “Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card.”

I just installed the AJA Io v2 2-1.0 Update as well as the AJA Io Control Panel Application.
I am running OS 10.3.9, FCP 5.0.1 on a G5 Dual 2 GHz. We installed that same set-up on G5 running 10.4.1 and had no problems.
I am getting the error “Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card”.
Just trying to get this problem resolved asap to keep my workflow moving. Anyone out there who can help me. Left a voicemail
for AJA Tech Support, wating to hear back.

    Thanks

Usually get that when you try to edit a non-RGB still image.

Yeah, but we’re not even editing anything yet. The error message pops up as FCP is launched. Once a project is open, the playback compression codecs (among others) are listed as (missing) -when looking at the A/V settings. If I try to force select another codec a second error message appears – “Error: no memory!”

Hopefully Aja Support will be able to walk me through it and figure out the variable I missed.

Blackbana, did you receive any solution for this problem?
I have just got exactly the same error on my Mac Pro, including the Out of Memory! error.
I have an AJA card too

Blackbana or Mark Kalbskopf, did you receive any solutions for this problem? I am not getting error when I launch Final Cut Pro HD.

Sorry, this has been fixed for me, but I can’t remember what the cure was. I know I just googled the error message and eventually came to the solution several pages into my search. I’ll post if it comes back to me.

Hi mark, if you can remember how you corrected this error please let me know. I’m having trouble getting my apple to read the codec of my XH A1 (UK) and I’v ebeen getting the same message (codec not found…). Then fcp crashes…
    Thanks,
    Pedro

Just in case this helps someone – I got the same error message after I had to do an Archive and Install on my Mac (on Apple’s advice) due to losing my internet connection.

The FCP codex error message was caused by missing items in the library folder. What I had to do was open the previous systems folder and check the contents against the current folder and then (if it contained stuff that the current one didn’t) dump the new one in the trash and drag the old one over (via the desktop)

All very tedious – however I got there in the end. Incidentally during this process I lost my internet connection again – and discovered that the culprit that was causing this to happen was the preferences folder.

    Hi Marina,
thank you for your post, it solved my problem as well:
    I added to Library PreferencePanes:
    Apple Qmaster.prefPane

Library Quicktime now looks like this:
    Media 100 Codec.Component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutputClock.component
    FCP Uncompressed 422.component
    DVCPROHDMuxer.component
    Flip4Mac WMV Import.component
    Flip4Mac WMV Export.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutput.component
    IMXCodec.component
    InstantMediaOSX.lib
    Title2EffectOSX.component
    Motion.component
    Media100 HD.component
    AppleProRes422.component
    DVCPROHDCodec.component
    Media 100 Transcoder.Component
    LiveType.component
    Media 100 VOUT.Component
    Flip4Mac WMV Advanced.component
    Media100.component
    DVCPROHDVideoOutputCodec.component
    AppleIntermediateCodec.component
    DivX Encoder.component
    DesktopVideoOut.component
    DVCPROHDVideoDigitizer.component
    AppleHDVCodec.component

    Marina,

I did something very similar to what you described, although when I try to drag the old folder over from the desktop (after trashing the current one) I get an error message saying the item cannot be moved. Did that happen to you?

The problem was caused by my doing an archive and install. I dragged most of the FCP folders over to the new system but missed a couple. When I tracked them down and dragged them over I stopped getting the error message

In answer to your question I didn’t have any problems moving the folders over to the new system. I think if it related to the operating system it might be different but these were just appliations folders I was dragging over.
