Thanks very much Jerry, this helps alot. When you preview HD clips from the timeline to a HD TV, does it come out as HD on the monitor? Do you use firewire from CPU—>TO CAMERA–>an S-video output from your HD camera to monitor, or what type?

Thank guys and gals for the helpful info. Some other questions come to mind:

How do I tell if my computer supports firewire 400, or 800?

I have an external firewire DVD burner attached to my old cpu, and it has its own power switch which needs to be turned on and off. Do the external firewire hard drives have to be turned on and off individually?

What are the pro/cons of going with HD-Connect by Convergent Design, vs. HD-Connect by Cineform? JerryW, I’m not sure which one you have.

and CPU—>FIREWIRE#2—>drive#1—>firewire—>drive#2—>firewire–>drive#3

whoops, I just found how to make a item the default. But can the item numbers be changed?

use your mask, and use the child/parent track to have both tracks move the same.

This can be done easily without Vegas. You would need a video switcher from the linear editing days of old. Put the camera in one input, and put the video input that your replacing the
