Thanks for the advice! The only GPU drivers should be the one that came with my system (which should have been overwritten right?) and this new one, but I’ll give it a try. I’ve been meaning to format my system and start over, maybe this will finally force me to do that.

By “OS update” do you mean my OS’s number actually changed from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8? I have no idea when that was, if ever. The last software update was a few months ago, I’ll try updating, but the only real stuff in there were java updates.

I’ll give that a go, and try posting in the Adobe forums. Only reason I posted here was because I’ve had better luck getting answers here, and the Adobe forums didn’t have any answers readily available, I’ll definitely post there too.

    Thanks.

I just found out that when I decrease the window view size to roughly half (or less) the resolution of the footage it is displayed properly. Is this just a weird quirk with the codec and CatDV?

YES! That works perfectly! So long story short, I’m not smart enough to use this software. Haha, I was totally missing that entire “other” tab. Thank you so much, you are a God send my friend!

I figured as much. Given my current inability to export to FCP it’s still super helpful.

Starting fresh I guess, in the past when I would look for single clips I would just do a reveal in finder or drag the original clip over to FCP. I’m not doing any proxies, no worker node, no CatDV server. All media is online and stored on a Facillis Terrablock and all media for a given catalogue is on the same volume on the Terrablock. I use a ton of Proress files too 29.97 and 59.94 in other catalogues with similar results, but currently I’m trying to work with some DVCPRO HD 720 60p footage. I have no problems with playback or speed. A lot of times it also flip flops my in and out point for a clip, it all seems pretty random to me.

So it definitely was a frame rate issue. I followed David’s advice and had AE interpret the footage as 30fps, then did the track in a 30fps comp. Imported and exported the type as 30fps in C4D, did all the compositing and everything at 30fps, and then rendered out the final comp at 29.97. That seemed to have solved my issue. However the client has since changed the time of the clip with so slow-mo effects, warped it to make it look more wide angle, and other adjustments have thrown the track off.

    Here’s an updated clip.

Obviously the track is no longer on target, but I don’t believe C4D is to blame anymore.

About the clip; I just used the AE Standard Tracker higher up on the towers and tracked position and rotation. I’m not going for something perfectly affixed to the ride, just enough correct movement to get the idea that the text crashing into the scene.

It wasn’t quite getting what I wanted, but it was close, I needed more than just putting spots on an object, though I like the way it works with lights and shading. I ended up processing footage in photoshop using the Halftone effect and using this little particular preset: https://www.motion-graphics-exchange.com/after-effects/Particular-Halftone-Effect/4a872de7c592c

February 2, 2012 at 6:41 pm in reply to: Invert 1 Key Frame Value With A Checkbox?

My second keyframe value is 0 so no checkbox keyframing required. Good to know though! Is there way to only select a specific keyframe with markers or something?

Sweet! I got it to work by eliminating some of the carriage returns around “-value” and “value”.

I think this “if/else” type of expression might open me up to some new things.

Is there a place online that explains things like difference between using “( )” vs “[ ]” vs “{ }” and why you needed to use 2 equal signs instead of 1?

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help.

  • Awesome! I knew it had something simple like that. i would have preferred to have been able to use the mospline so I would only have to update 1 spline and then it would auto-update thru the whole thing so I could make text easier, but this is good enough! I tried doing the same thing with another mospline but it didn’t work as well as using a real spline for some reason.
