    Thanks for the tips!

I usually can get away with only using shaders and fiddling a bit with projection mapping, but the current project I’m on has some pretty specific requests requiring custom painted UV’s.

So far I have been taking advantage of the PS exchange, doing all of my painting in there. Only using C4D for creating the UV maps.

What do you mean by “one of the optimal mapping methods”?

    Thanks for the help!

Good point, I don’t recall what my filter situation was, I usually don’t have too many going on, usually just basic color correction since I tend use AE for anything more than that. Perhaps that is the culprit.

My test consisted of exporting an unrendered timeline (with yellow bars) to a proress422 QT file. I then rendered that same timeline to proress422 and exported it to a proress 422 QT file with use previews enabled. The time taken to create both QT files was the exact same.

[Vince] “No, although you can choose to use “previews” to accelerate the export (say for client review) by checking “use previews” in your export settings.”

As far as I can tell, there is no difference when checking the use previews button on or off. I’ve done timed tests exporting a rendered timeline using the previews (to the same codec as the render files), and exporting an unrendered timeline. On my Mac 10.7 PPRO CS6, it takes the exact same time either way. Anyone else notice that? Or am I missing something?

I have also noticed exporting to Proress takes longer than other codecs in PPro6.

I’m having the same issue, we have 3 edit bays (3 different intel model macs) and bought 3 quadro 4000’s. Best I can tell the cards work great on the 2 oldest Macs, but the newest Mac just won’t have anything to do with the 4000. I have tried 2 different cards with no success. It eventually locks up just like others have described. I have tried putting the cards in every available slot, tried different drivers, even removed every other card in the system, removed the drivers for those and I keep getting the same result. I’ve even tried reformatting and doing a clean install, and the same result. I tried the # listed above, but it does not appear to be working. Meanwhile Windows has about 20 different cards that can do the same or better job.

I’m having the same issue on PPro CS6. Sometimes it plays, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s not choppy or anything it’s like the playback button stops working sometimes. I can scrub through footage just fine, rendered and unrendered.

Only solution I’ve been able to find is to close EVERY program on my computer, then just open Adobe, then I can start to open a couple other minor programs, but other CPU/RAM hungry programs tend to make PPro very unhappy.

That’s what I’ve been able to figure out so far. My blackmagic playback still doesn’t work right yet though.

I’m trying to do the same thing, my understanding is that it’s not an Adobe thing, it’s an Apple Quicktime and Telestream thing. 32bit vs. 64bit. Adobe is 64bit now and can’t use the old 32bit flip4mac quicktime wmv structure.

Is there a way to export to .wmv format from the PPro timeline? Our clients like wmv’s for the approval/revision process and it’s a pain to export out a file and recompress in another program.

I can’t seem to find a way to make a .wmv in PPro or AME.

    I’m running OSX 10.6.8

Thanks! Couldn’t have done it without your guidance!

I swear I tried that earlier with noise shaders, but I couldn’t get it to work. However I did try making some cracks in a .psd and it worked out really good! So Thank You! Here’s a pic of what I came up with. I added some grunge to the diffusion channel too.

Hmmm… good advice I’ll have to remember. We stuck the same card in another Mac and it seems to work fine. So until I can do a format/instal on my system to clear out all the driver conflicts and whatever else I’ll just have to go without. Thanks for the specific numbers though!
