  • Thanks, Shane.

  • Jeremy,

Thanks for your spirited advice. Editor 1 is using 3 drives. Editor 2 is using 1 drive. So, I’m not sure if this will work! In the past, I’ve worked with relinking promos and it is just easier to manage b/c we’re dealing with 5 minutes! This is a project with Reel 1 sequence and Reel 2 sequence. 2 hours long. I will look into XMLs. We have merged audio from dats and so the relinking I”m tthinking of doing could be problematic. Thanks again for any experience in workflow.

    Debe and Craig,

Thanks for any help. Really I love this forum.

Well at this point there is no access to fcp so i will be using imovie so bear with me! it is an online submission for Siggraph in MA. They are extracting media from the dvd with Cinematize and then preparing it for me. For the online submission wejust need a high res mov, .avi, .qt or
.mpeg format only. 200MB total size or less for the submission.

I’m having him create a QT in imovie ! with H264 compression, at best 720 X 480 and to **deselect the prepare for internet streaming**so I can bring it into imovie and create a title card and then reexport. I will also be creating a simple DVD from this extraction, so the best quality he can get me, the better. what is the best export compression first for him to get me the media, and then second, for me to export for this online submission? hope this is clear and thanks for your help.

    QT, thanks.
What are your thoughts on Compression type: H.264? is it best to use DV/DVPro for export?

Hi there thanks for reply… I am going to see client now. I already gave them a heads up that I was not sure how to fix it…perhaps deinterlace and checking to see if there are some filters on the clips which should not be. Motion for the same clip in other places not a prob….Good luck to you!!!!

  • could not use a pack
chose to do 1 pass at 3.7 or so
    it is being created now
    will the image be visible?
they are wanting dvds from a offling photo jpeg seq.
    i exported to 720 X 480 .mov
and re-rendered this in a sequence.
what should i do if this mpeg does not work?
should i break up sequence and put on separate dvds?
please help this is just a very difficult situation. thanks for your assistance.

  • No, not using this as final footage. We will upres soon. The DVDs are for reference. Wondering the best way to create a dvd with this low res footage as noted. Thanks.

  • So, to confrim, if we are using Photoshop 7 and not CS we should be scanning them in at 720×534 we can either downsize to 720×480, or leave at 720×534 size for assistant editors to resize in fcp? I was under the impression and believe it was noted here that if the asst editors wind up doing the resizing in FCP, the image may become distorted. Most images are being zoomed into , longest length 2000 pixels, 350 dpi. Sounds like best would be to downsize. All of this is currently in offline RT so imae qualiy is hard to determine in the cuts, and I want to be prepared for the online.

  • I understand that the images need to be saved as 720 X 534 and then saved as 720 X 480. After additional research and speaking with an experienced editor he noted to me that even if images are left as saved as 720 X 534, these images *can* be adjusted in fcp to match correctly. Is he wrong?
