what is the configuration of your setup. How is it all hooked up. How many metasan/lan did you have to buy?
-
ok so whats a setup with fibre, iscsi or infiniband. i find the website to be pretty ambiguous in telling us what is really needed for a metasan setup. I like to know about some different configurations with host/client specs.
-
correct me if im wrong but metasan works like this.
Metasan installed on the host computer.
metalan installed on the client computers.
aprox prices
$1k for metasan
$300 per clientright?

.fcp file, drag to fcp in doc

point is, fcp has to improve its method of making projects and being able to save quickly. Ive been told to make projects for each “bin” or for only sequences, and selects, etc. It has helped a lot, but common, there should be 1 project for 1 project (tough concept, i know). Also, i have a folder with all finalcut projects that equals 700mb. When i “add to archive” it compresses to 20mb. There could be some optimizing there that would definitely decrease project file sizes and saving speed. I think if apple was making these output/capture cards, final cut would be years behind. Luckily Aja’s and decklinks first priority is making Video Hardware. FCP in my opinion can’t possibly be at the top of apples priority list. They make more with itunes in a day they fcp in a month.
At the end of the day though. I love how i can cut dvcpro hd and output to a client monitor, and reference monitor and later output to an hdcam deck. I spent 1k for a decklink card (now i regret not getting aja) instead of spending 25 thousand on an avid adrenaline. I still think that most of the advantages are in the cheap hardware though, the software in my opinion needs a boost.

yes avid does not do it in the background. but saving avid projects takes a fraction of the time that fcp takes. lets be realistic here.
