Hi everybody..
I’m tying to implement SAN on my shop, I read that metaSAN is a good option, bot love to hear more pros&cons for someone already have it.
As I said, we are a very small shop so we have 3 FCP, 2Xserve’s 1XRaid 7TB (one raid 5 each side) and all share with GB eternet. Works fine for DVcam and sometimes Uncompress SD, but now we need HD, also I know that Xraid is quite slow for uncompress HD, but that something that we need to handle in the future..
Right now we want to start with the Fibre SAN, so any input is very welcome.

I’m currently using MetaSan for a small SAN using a 7TB Promise VTrak M500f for storage, QLogic switch, and QLogic HBAs. It works great. The only problem I had setting it up had to do with formatting the storage with WinXP. (Since the volume was larger than 2TB, a setting had to be changed.) Once that was straightened out, the MetaSan software installed easily and has performed flawlessly.

metaSAN is a great option I have just implimented it into our small shop and it was super easy to install and setup…I would recommend looking into the demo, we tried a 30 day demo just to make sure that it was the real deal. it is a great option to make sure that it will do what you want. The only complication is going to be your RAID that is greater that 7 TB. But it gives step by step instructions on what to do.

what is the configuration of your setup. How is it all hooked up. How many metasan/lan did you have to buy?
