Haha…yeah I’d have to agree with Tom on this one. I’ve replaced my 17-point font with 20, FCP scrolling text with Boris crawl, and it’s made a significant difference. Thanks to all who responded!

From my experience, you’re better off using ‘Capture Now’ b/c the nature of the footage forces a new clip to be made every time there’s a timecode break. FCP gets a little weirded out when you mark and In and Out point beyond a break in video. The most efficient way is to capture the whole tape, then log the captured footage afterwards.

Ah yes, I noticed a plethora of reds when I watched a test DVD of my film (pre-color correction) on my TV. Glad to hear that I won’t have to color correct twice!

Hi Rick,
I have a Canon XH-G1 and I’m also editing on FCP6…what frame rate is your video? If you’re shooting in 24F, use the “HDV 1080p24” preset. If it’s 60i, then it sounds like your settings are correct. Are you getting timecode in the Log/Capture window when you operate your camera remotely?

June 30, 2007 at 6:50 pm in reply to: Mixed HDV frame rates…output OK, or recompress?OK folks…it’s not looking good for mixed frame rate editing. I did an export using QuickTime Conversion on a test sequence containing 24fps and 29.97fps clips. You’ll notice under ‘Options’ that it asks you to choose just one frame rate. I went ahead and saved two copies: one at 24fps, and one at 29.97fps. There doesn’t seem to be any difference between the two frame rates in each QuickTime movie conversion. I will say, however, I really can’t tell the difference b/w the differing clips unless I’m comparing clips that contain a lot of motion, whether it be camera motion or the subject in motion. If anyone figures out a solution to this…you should probably be working for Apple. 😉

I just called apple, and I ran the disk utility, and did a Verify Disk, and it came back with no issues. However, my capture drive is a hard drive that I purchased separately from Newegg for a pretty cheap price — $120.

Do you have a deck that supports HDV? HDV doesn’t have PAL or NTSC limitations, b/c it’s a compressed form of HD. What are your capture settings for the said “HDV PAL and NTSC” formats?

June 9, 2007 at 11:56 pm in reply to: FCP6, the culprit of Quad-core crashing??Ah well, they should mention it in their system requirements on the FCP product information page of their website. That’s what I based my custom Mac Pro configuration off of, since I was purchasing both FCP Studio and my computer at the same time.

June 9, 2007 at 11:34 am in reply to: FCP6, the culprit of Quad-core crashing??Thanks, David — I thought perhaps that was the problem — I have a friend who’s an audio engineer, and she warned me that I may have this problem, as the same thing happens w/ Pro Tools. I’ll definitely buy an extra 500-gig drive and transfer my media. I’m surprised Apple doesn’t mention that minor detail in their system requirements for FCP Studio.
