November 11, 2015 at 4:12 pm in reply to: Text completely shrinks and turns jagged after renderingIt should render almost exactly as you can preview it in your viewport. Otherwise you have something wrongly set. Either way I believe its best you adjust your resolutions for each output. Print, Vimeo, Projection and so on.
Can you render a single frame (ctrl + als + s) and upload? and take a printscreen of the same frame, So we can see how jagged it becomes.

November 11, 2015 at 4:03 pm in reply to: Very Hard Flythrough Animation (Ae+C4D+Trapcode Particular) in a starfield environmentyes, you should link any 3d asset already in place to the null before reseting. And no, you won’t lose the animation (if you do it right).
There are several ways of repositining your camera while keeping the animation. I simply tried to tell the most user friendly way.
Keep in mind though that you still have the whole movement. So if the problem is the range of the fly through and not it’s initial (or overall) place in space, you’ll still end up with the same issues.

It should center around [960,540,0] for a 1080p composition. If it aint the case, create a null, make it 3d, copy paste your camera’s position to it. Link the camera to the null and reset the null’s position.

November 11, 2015 at 12:00 pm in reply to: Very Hard Flythrough Animation (Ae+C4D+Trapcode Particular) in a starfield environment[Ben Janowitz] “-The starfield is too small! Even if I followed this great tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osQAT1ARIsM) to do a nice large starfield in Trapcode Particular, -since the first seconds of small movements (it’s a small rollercoster-like-shot) I end up very close to some stars.”
Is it because you move too far in Z space, or because you move too far back? You’ll have to adjust your scale either by increasing the particles distance and size or by reducing your cameras movement(try linking it to a null and scalling down). If your problem is big particles near the camera, remember you can cut them off in the visibility options of TC’s particular.
[Ben Janowitz] “and why my second camera doesn’t work…”
A few things the check: You camera must be active in AE’s timeline. Particular must be set to comp camera. Perhaps a Screenshot of your timeline would help narrow the problem.

November 11, 2015 at 11:45 am in reply to: Why am I losing quality when I use multiple precomps??The short answer is no.
The long answer is that there are a few checks that could reduce a nested composition’s quality, but only if you’re scalling things up and/or not collapsing. Such as the draft checkbox or the “Preserve resolution when nested” that is within the advanced tab of the composition’s options pannel. But on those cases the quality reduction should be meaningful on the blureness and should not affect color.
Maybe you can provide some screenshots showing the differences?

October 30, 2015 at 6:45 pm in reply to: How to work with smaller video sizes in After Effects to speed up processing? To use rotobrush AE has to bring each frame to RAM memory and thats probably your current limitation, RAM. (Edit: When it slows its maybe because it starts to swap to disk, so changing to a SSD may speed things up, but not even close to just having more RAM)
.mov is a container that can hold several formats/codecs, you may convert to something more compressed but It would be better if you know what you’re currently working with. Keep in mind that compressing may cause loss of data and therefore detail that is preferable to keep while creating your mattes(see lossy and lossless compression).
Though I have to confess that I’m not sure if AE won’t hold the same frames in memory and since its resolution that matters, converting will have no effect on your system slowing down. A de-compressed 1080p is still 1920×1080.
So ill stick to my first advice, divide and conquer.

October 29, 2015 at 5:44 pm in reply to: Tricky screen replacement – How to mask this?If what you have to apply is also somewhat bright, I’d just cut the dude out with a featherd mask (he almost stay put during the whole pan). I’d be done minutes before the rotobrush processed the clip. And you can shrink the mask and control the feather way faster than robobrushing.
