Why am I losing quality when I use multiple precomps??
Hey there!
I’m fairly new to After effects and am trying to learn more about the software myself (so forgive me if the answer is fairly obvious, I haven’t found much help looking through other posts).
I’ve noticed that when I use multiple precomps within a comp, the quality becomes worse the more precomps I have. The final image rendered and exported is a bit more blurry, less sharp, and the colors aren’t as vibrant. I always make sure to “collapse” everything, even within the precomps. Some insight/tips would be incredibly helpful. Do precomps take away any detail?

The short answer is no.
The long answer is that there are a few checks that could reduce a nested composition’s quality, but only if you’re scalling things up and/or not collapsing. Such as the draft checkbox or the “Preserve resolution when nested” that is within the advanced tab of the composition’s options pannel. But on those cases the quality reduction should be meaningful on the blureness and should not affect color.
Maybe you can provide some screenshots showing the differences?
