December 13, 2012 at 4:49 pm in reply to: Today Only – 12/12/12 – Vegas Pro Upgrade $99.95

Just to get something off my chest regarding this offer…I tried to take advantage of this yesterday for my corporate machine. My boss has a new Visa card, and I had problems getting the card authorized via the Sony purchasing site. Eventually, the site locked me out. I then called Sony Customer Support.

    Big mistake.

The individual at the other end of the line was not only rude to the point of indifference, he indicated at first that I could “wait three days” till the account unlocked. I told him I would then miss Sony’s one-day sale…he replied by saying that the sale is for several weeks. “No, I’m aware of that sale. This is a new offer I received at 10pm Pacific time in both my corporate and personal email accounts that clearly states in the message header that this offer is for one day only.”

He stated that the only offer that came close to this (that he suddenly located during our conversation) was one for two days, and that my transaction would, after all, unlock by then.

No, I repeated, the offers I got are for one day only.

That can’t be, he said. I see EVERY offer we put out. There’s no such offer.

In other words, he called me a liar. Thanks for your help, Sony. Idiot, idiot, idiot….

That’s what I was thinking…I suppose that’s the most direct approach. We’ll see if it reverses the problem. Thanks.

Out of curiosity, does version 12 ship with a new version of DVD Architect Pro?

It seems to have started after the installation of Graffiti. I can’t tell if it started immediately afterwards, or because of it. But I do know that prior to Graffiti being on my system, RED was working. Now neither of them have functional tab stops.

February 29, 2012 at 6:46 pm in reply to: new build of Pro 11 released

…and ironically, I just experienced my first crash with the new 64 bit build. I was simply running some m2ts raw footage on the timeline, and it stopped cold. Perhaps I should have rebooted the machine after the installation.

  • I’m simply rendering from the Vegas Pro timeline, using the appropriate templates for Blu-ray at 1080 60i (I believe I used the “Sony AVC/MVC 1920×1080 60i 16 Mbps” template for the video component, but I’d have to check when I get home to be sure).

Although I composed the Blu-ray menues in DVD Architect, I actually had to burn the image using “ImgBurn”. For some reason, DVD Architect doesn’t want to communicate with the Pioneer Blu-ray burner I put into my home computer.

  • Glad to see some informative and recent replies on this topic. To answer Chris’s recent question to me: I haven’t done anything to upgrade yet; consequently, I’m just burning Blu-rays at 1080 60i to play on my Panasonic player. But I will look into the “Boxee” box as an option.

  • Personally, I always use “Uncompressed AVI” before rendering to Flash from Squeeze. However, I do find that my audio track has to be adjusted in the source AVI to match the audio settings Squeeze will use (in my case, it’s 22,050 Hz, Bit depth of 16 and Mono…but your mileage may vary, depending on your desired output). If I don’t do that, my audio will come out horribly distorted and over-modulated.

  • One of the things that also affects rendering time and stability are the number of video tracks within the render time frame. I’ve found that if I mute any unnecessary video tracks within the selected area of the video I’m rendering, the time to render decreases and the stability (its proclivity to crash) decreases.

January 12, 2012 at 5:47 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas 11 will not render .mp4 files.

God bless you for this! You just saved me from a failure to render two projects.

I’m not sure if this is significant, but I’m using a machine that does not have a GPU that can be leveraged by Vegas for rendering in the first place. I wonder if people that do have an appropriate graphics card are having the same issue in rendering to the .mp4 format.
