Redo the sound effect in FCP or Soundtrack Pro perhaps?

In HUD, adjust Cone Angle and Soft Edge parameters.

To get spot light to move use a Throw Behavior.

Switch between Active Camera and Perspective views to see what you’re doing.

The MOTION 3: DESIGNING AND ANIMATING MOTION GRAPHICS IN FINAL CUT STUDIO 2 (book) is just out.

Well it may not be totally possible, well, at least without keyframing. 🙂 But a possible workaround might be to have multiple Emitters with different parameters and low Birth Rates for more randomness.

Basically it’s because the LiveFonts are actually media, i.e., each letter is actually a little movie. So when you try to add a color to the “face” parameter in the Inspector, Motion layers that color on top of the LiveFont color, which may not be what you want. It’s better to shift the color using a Color Correction filter.

An animated mask would work (it’s a tried and true After Effects method).

But yeah, in Motion there’s lots of ways to do stuff like this:

    2) With Replicators and Behaviors, if you have Motion 3, check out Library>Content>Flora>Branch 01 which uses Replicated shapes and the Sequence Replicator to animate ’em
    3) Shapes using Shape Behavior>Write On (in Motion 3, see Library>Content>Drawings>Ornament 01)
    4) Particle Emitters! (cool, huh?) by animating a Particle Emitter’s point of origin with a keyframed motion path (Inspector>Properties>Transform>Position) (in Motion 3, see Library>Content>Flora>Arabesque)
    5) With Motion 3, you could use the new Paint Stroke Tool as well as the new Sequence Paint Behavior (Shape>Sequence Paint) to reveal paint strokes over time
5b) You could even create a animated mask with the Paint Stroke Tool (i.e., white paint strokes) and then utilize Stencil Luma, Stencil Alpha, etc. You can even edit the splines that make up the essentially vector “paint” strokes.

    You could:

    1) Select Emitter in Layers tab
    2) Deselect “Face Camera” option in Emitter tab in Inspector
(Between “Interleave Particles” and “Cell Controls”)
    3) Go to Properties tab in Inspector, then open up all three axis parameters under Rotation and set an Oscillate Behavior to the Y-axis (or whatever).

(And also have a Basic Motion Spin Behavior on the Leaf Cell itself.)

I realized that what you were asking involves rotating an object on the Y-axis, not the Z-axis, so definitely do what specialcase is suggesting.

This is what happens when I try to do too many things in one day. 🙂

You’re applying the Oscillate behavior to the Rotation parameter, of course:

    3) Inspector>Properties>Rotation>Right click to bring up Parameter behavior Pop-Up>Choose Oscillate (leave default sine wave shape)

Or you could move the anchor point…

For instance, for a pendulum effect:

    1) Toolbar>View>Adjust Anchor Point Tool
    2) Move object anchor point to a new position in Canvas
    3) Inspector>Properties>Right click to bring up Parameter behavior Pop-Up>Choose Oscillate (leave default sine wave shape)
4)Adjust sine wave amplitude to regulate pendulum swing

That by the way takes about 10 seconds to do tops. Another argument in this whole Motion vs. After Effects debate, while the AE people are still downloading a “How to Make a Pendulum Effect” tutorial, we’re already onto the next project!

[Craig Shields] “When Shake went EOL, didn’t they say that they would introduce the next generation compositing tool called Phenomenon in 08? Or is that just a code-name?”

Yep…but only in rumors (i.e., no official Apple announcements) 🙂
