You didn’t mention the delivery platform–PC or Apple–so gamma (Mac OS X – 1.8, PC and Television 2.2) may be your issue so you might want to check out this article QuickTime Pro – QT Movies from FCP over at KenStone.net.

We also called it live-to-tape. We then used the ISO’s to fixed any mistakes from the camera people or technical director.

October 27, 2005 at 12:29 am in reply to: Any way to use firewire to transfer media to FCP while using RS-422 deck control, ala DSR-1500I’m not sure what you are asking.
Log & Capture works perfectly using the Sony DSR-1500 (a.k.a. deck control)
Edit to Tape/Assemble Edit works perfectly using the Sony DSR-1500 (a.k.a. deck control)
Print to Video works perfectly using the Sony DSR-1500 (a.k.a. deck control)
You will need a USB to Serial adapter like the Keyspan usb/serial adapter for RS-422 control. You will need to go to the audio video device controls settings in FPC to make sure you are pointed at the correct device control protocol.

I know I came to this party late and Mark wants a no pay solution but what about BitJazz: SheerVideo for his 30 minute section. Their player is free for the other end of his pipeline.
I worked for a governmental type public broadcasting entity once and sometimes I had to buy my own software to make things work. Of course when I left, so did the software.

I love it when technical information trumps common knowledge, general wisdom and opinion even though they all came to the same conclusion here.
Thanks again Martin!!!

If I were going to do a heavily layer composited project or VFX project I would lean toward 10-bit, but I would also lean toward Digibeta as a minimum in a standard definition video format for that.

Final Cut Pro 4 Default Keyboard Set-up PDF , “The Undiscovered Country”, is the best color coded keyboard map I have found for discovering all those little gems.
You can load it into OS X Preview or Adobe Acrobat and do a word search like “mark” and it will take you to every keyboard color coded instance of “mark”. Just looking at it right now the Cmd+Opt+K shortcut adds a audio level keyframe and I noticed the it is right next to the Cmd+Opt+L shortcut that started this thread.
Oh, and printing out a couple of color prints is cool too.
Enjoy,

The Keyspan USB adapter worked on my G4 and PVW-2800 setup.
Which brand are you using?
