    Hello
I’m working on a project which may require live multicam editing
I’d like to know how this can be done in FCP…
Basically I have to feed in 8 cameras and do a live edit. How does it work to plug 8 cameras into a mac? A switcher with firewire cables? A switcher with analog inputs that is fed into a blackmagic card?

I’m totally new to this and I don’t even know if it actually is possible

    Thanks
    Alex

    Nope. Can’t.

Final Cut Pro is a Non-Linear Editor, not a video switcher. You need to get a video switcher that will take all your cameras and send the source to one deck…known as the LINE CUT. But it would also be wise to have each camera record to tape as well, called ISOs (Isolated).

FCP captures one tape at a timen then can tie them all together with the Multiclip function.

    One input, one output.

We also called it live-to-tape. We then used the ISO’s to fixed any mistakes from the camera people or technical director.

    Don’t worry Mr. B. I have a cunning plan…
