Thanks for your reply.
I have always read that it is essential (for security of your material) to move the files via clip browser only – not simply move them by copy and paste. Perhaps this is only if one is backing up your clips?
What’s your take on this?

I am shooting mainly documentary work and need to shoot in HD while using some of the material for other DVD projects. Any material I shoot that I know will only be for DVD I will shoot in SD as you suggest.

I do have a further question and would be grateful for your input:

After I have imported my clips to my computer HDD using the XDCam clip browser, I open Vegas and search for my clips in the ‘Explorer’ tab. I locate them on my Data drive as (for example) the following:
D:/Sony Video Clips/Clip Browser/20100425174422/BPAV/CLPR/BQ010002_01.
When I click on the final folder (BQ010002_01), I see the clip in the window next to the explorer tree window.
If I click on the CLPR folder, I only see a list of folders that contain each individual clip.

So I have to load each clip individually into the Project Media file – which takes a ridiculously long time. My question is: Is there any way I can load these clips as a group?

This might be a very basic one, but search as I may, I haven’t been able to find a quick way to do it.

PS: I have done what you suggested and it certainly worked on the upper section of the Project Properties box. It doesn’t however affect the mid section that includes ‘Pixel Format’, Compositing Gama’, etc. Do you have any suggestions concerning these settings?

Hi Fred,
Are you editing HD? If so, what camera is being used to originate your material?

One last query: Do you have any CineForm products?

I am going to be on location for several months and will need smooth preview and playback (well, I would *prefer* it to be smooth!!).

I am shooting on an EX1r and will have an “HP dv8t” with i7 840QM processor and dual (7200rpm) HDDs plus 8GB ram. I’m wondering if I should spring for the $500 “Neo HD” product. It’s just that I’m already over budget and could use that money elsewhare.

Your thoughts please?

If you registered your copy with Sony online, they will have all the details stored on their site. You access it by logging in to your account.

David, I can’t help but agree with you. Here’s hoping the updates come sooner rather than later.

Sorry Vince, I’m not sure what you are referring to. Sony Vegas 10 Pro – the version we are chatting about – won’t be released until October 11th. If it’s Movie Studio 10 you are referring to I can’t help I’m afraid.

Though you have a good point concerning Vegas as an editing platform, my comments concern the fact that the new version happens to contain an upgrade that I have been asking for for some months – that being the ability to now make use of the power of the GPU.

Of course this doesn’t alter the editing capabilities of Vegas, nor does it improve one’s creative powers. It does however speed up the rendering process and at last begins to bring Vegas into this century concerning the use of the powerful graphics cards that are now being included in even quite modest laptops.

And I could have used a ‘heads up’ about a month ago before I spent my money on the upgrade from 8 to 9! (Stamps his foot!) ;-(

Like you Carlton, I upgraded to V9 from V8 a month back – feel a bit ripped off that people with later versions don’t get more of a break.

In fact I haven’t even installed it as I have been waiting for my new laptop to arrive! Sigh…
