September 11, 2010 at 9:44 pmLike you Carlton, I upgraded to V9 from V8 a month back – feel a bit ripped off that people with later versions don’t get more of a break.
In fact I haven’t even installed it as I have been waiting for my new laptop to arrive! Sigh…

September 11, 2010 at 11:25 pmGuys, why the long faces, You are not loosing anything still using
Vegas 8 or Vegas 9 whenever 10 comes out…..Its only editing, and yes each version has new features and for some editors the new features are hardly even used.Whichever version of vegas you are using its still current…Its the editing results and creativity that counts.

September 12, 2010 at 6:27 amThough you have a good point concerning Vegas as an editing platform, my comments concern the fact that the new version happens to contain an upgrade that I have been asking for for some months – that being the ability to now make use of the power of the GPU.
Of course this doesn’t alter the editing capabilities of Vegas, nor does it improve one’s creative powers. It does however speed up the rendering process and at last begins to bring Vegas into this century concerning the use of the powerful graphics cards that are now being included in even quite modest laptops.
And I could have used a ‘heads up’ about a month ago before I spent my money on the upgrade from 8 to 9! (Stamps his foot!) ;-(

September 12, 2010 at 4:09 pmI don’t blame you for feeling a bit ripped off, but given their development cycle it was pretty clear that Vegas 10 would be due sometime in the near future. I wouldn’t worry too much about the CUDA accelerated h264 rendering though. With Adobe’s Mercury Engine utilizing the GPU and multi core cpu for even video previewing, Vegas is going to either have to add a lot of updates to 10 aside from the ones mentioned that will make it worth upgrading, or just face becoming completely obsolete in the industry.
A feature as important as this cannot wait for Vegas 11.

September 12, 2010 at 7:39 pmAm I ever glad I ran into you guys! I hope you don’t mind me barging in….anyways I’m having the same software issues as alot of these posts are referring to. I recently bought a JVC GY-HM100U HD Camcorder with a 32GB Sandisk card with Sony Vegas 10 as the “compatible” software. Don’t wanna waste your time but what is the absolute number thing I should do to at least reduce the lag time. There should be no issues with the computer because I just bought that was well at $2,000. I also have an 1.5 TB external drive that I still have to install. Any suggestions? Thanks.

September 12, 2010 at 9:42 pmDavid, I can’t help but agree with you. Here’s hoping the updates come sooner rather than later.
Sorry Vince, I’m not sure what you are referring to. Sony Vegas 10 Pro – the version we are chatting about – won’t be released until October 11th. If it’s Movie Studio 10 you are referring to I can’t help I’m afraid.
Cheers,

September 13, 2010 at 3:33 amI’m not bumming out Steve, too much. I appreciate that it’s still Vegas, and I’m happy with V9. BUT, the only reason why I had to put out the $500-plus for V9 from 7 is that I HAD to buy a new computer, and 7 wouldn’t run with the 64-bit drivers. I actually kept googling “Sony Vegas 10” to see if there was any OFFICIAL news about its development/release date, but the only real news was about Platinum. So, I can relate to Bruce’s griefs a little bit, particularly since this will be the first Vegas to use a GPU. . .right now I got that spare memory, just waiting to be used. . .
Don’t get me wrong: I still love Vegas. LOVE IT! But. . .man! -

September 14, 2010 at 5:47 amSome companies give you a month or so grace period. But Vegas 10 was pretty much a no-brainer soon… if anything, it’s overdue. There’s been a release just about every year. And at least some GPU acceleration is a must-have for a 2010 release. Though I think they may already be behind — seems the main goal of most NLEs is to accelerate editing first… that’s the most critical thing that’s too slow today.
Adobe also seems to have realized that accelerated rendering (AVC or anything else) is only so useful if you’re spending too much time in plug-ins… so they’ve got plug-ins accelerated, too. Hopefully this is possible for Vegas, even if it not just implemented.
