Ah ha!!
In answer to my own question…for those who might have wondered, or may just make the same mistake, here is the answer:
When using the command crtl+shift+I to display or hide the event information on my timeline, I must have accidentally hit the ‘O’ instead of the ‘I’. This toggles the “Video event edge edit frames” function on and off.

This function can also be found in the “View” tab in the lower area.

I hope this saves someone the frustration it caused me.

By the way, there doesn’t appear to be any indication that I can see (other than the lack of said function) that this is on or off.
What a pain!

OK John…now here’s something else I’m noticing (for the first time…I think): When I trim the event in the timeline, the thumbnails in the actual event move frame-by-frame. If I trim the beginning, the first thumbnail changes…if I trim the end, the last thumbnail alters.

I’m thinking I’ve switched something by mistake and can’t get it back to the original specs.

When you trim your events in the timeline do your thumbnails change as well?

I liked your suggestion Mike and I think it might work for me. I haven’t used that function before and would like to give it a try. It could save some time in other areas as well!

John, you mentioned saving it as an FX Package…but I don’t seem to be able to find how to save the Pan/Crop function in Video FX. Could you explain a little further please? I have tried opening up the track FX and saving it there, but NFL. I can’t find a pan/crop plug-in in video FX – only a cookie cutter which unfortunately doesn’t serve my purpose.

Am I missing something?

Hi John and Damian,
You have to understand “nested projects” first…and perhaps I’ll start there:
If you have created an animated logo (for example) that requires multiple events and effects, and you wish to use this logo in multiple commercials that you are producing for a client, you could save this animated logo as a veg file and then import that veg file onto each commercial as you edit it – thus saving you the trouble of re-creating the logo each time.
Now lets get to the next issue:
Any nested projects should be listed in the location you normally file your veg files. It is simply a “mini project” for lack of a better term. Once you have found it, solving the issue is easy – just read John Rofrano’s very clear explanation above.

Stephen! What a guy. I checked my computer settings and there was a “loudness control” checked that I hadn’t noticed before. Unchecked that as well as anything else I could find that might interfere and voila…problem solved!
I hadn’t noticed this problem before. But because I was working on some room tone, which was low level background hum, the issue stood out.

Okay guys…I’ve been doing a bunch of tests on this and here is what happens when you save the filter package from the timeline:

1) Saves all the filters you have added in the correct order.
2) Saves all your settings.
3) Saves all the key frames.

But there is a catch!!!

It also saves the first key frame on the timeline – the one at the very start. And this key frame obviously doesn’t have the correct settings of “your” first key frame.

So once you have added your saved filter package to your clip, you need to delete the first key frame of each effect and slide “your” key frames back to the start of the timeline of your clip.

If however, you save a filter package from a clip, it will simply remember the start and end key frames and put these at the beginning and end of whatever length clip to which you add them.

Hope this is relatively clear.

Bottom line is it works great and thanks again to John for pointing me in the right direction.
