  • any update? I too was checking to see if looks would work on my media composer 5.0.3 on windows 7, did the “online chat” with the specialist, and they didn’t know? I looked again and see it said yes it’s compatible. I tried to download the demo, and it’s labeled as OSX? Emailed sales, and they pretty well said “I don’t know, try it!” Is this real, or a bad dream? If I offered that kind of customer service I’d be walking the streets.

Not to hijack this, but I have some old omf files(from a symphony)that i’ve loaded into MC5. Works ok, but when I try to archive them as aaf files with the media embedded, I keep getting an error. It’s saying invalid media type for MXF. I thought MXF was the be all to file format, is there somehting that it doesn’t like?

    Thanks Ed,
But when I create that split track to mono, it comes up grey (not muted or solo’d) and you can’t hear it until you right click on the mixer to enable the tracks separately.

while on the basics topic, after a move from an older avid to MC5, I open color correction, make adjustments, but then can never easily close the color correction window. I used to just escape and it would close, is there a simple way to close it? As well, when I first open the color corrector, the tools always hides in behind my timeline until I click on one of the three CC windows, then back on the tools. Can i just get the CC tools on top? Thanks as always

Thanks for the idea, unfortunately, there’s seven years of archived omf files, and I’ve really had no issues in restoring those hundreds of jobs in past. It’s mostly commercial work, 15’s and 30’s, and I didn’t expected a full restoration of an old omf file, but missing the embedded video of files is a big concern.
I’m not moving an avid omf to FCP and expecting it to work! I had always thought that omf was an avid idea, and would at least support it moving forward in some rational path. I expected some issue with secondary color correction not being there…. made sense, but it’s a whole new can of worms going from sapphire 2 to 3, and the numerous changes to the whole MC5 system. I had hoped that the title tool would at least open a file… sounds like a long, long weekend ahead!
    thanks again

Glad it was a good time for you, on the CTV side at the IBC we were on 12 hour shifts, for three weeks straight. I wish I had time to keep a blog, but after the daily non stop edits, just getting home every night was a struggle! 🙂

new update…. I find that when I have the whole sequence selected, that FCP does not want to do the “conform to sequence” when there are different aspect ratios within that sequence. If I try 5 or 10 shots that are from the same source, it works fine. Less time consuming, but there must be a better way to deal with the problem on a mass level, or at least a macro to work it out!

Thanks for that, Brain drain. Although that makes a small difference, there seem to be two ways to solve the problem… one, to remove all atributes, which resets the sizing, or in Modify, using the scale to sequence or conform to sequence. That looks more to be what I want to do, but it seems to only adjust that clip, and I can’t see where to do that for the sequence?

So I’ve got further, where what I seem to need to do is use the Modify – Conform to Sequence command. Still, I can’t seem to find a similar command to work on the whole sequence, just single shots at a time.
    Any thoughts…
    thanks
    Brian
