The type of work we normally do has a very short turnaround time. A lot of it is VNRs and b-roll packages for broadcast. Using Pro Tools or any other extra software really isn’t an option due to time, learning curve, extra cost, etc. I thought the Roger Nichols plugin would work because on the site it said it’s compatible with AU plugins (and my audio buddy told me it would). I guess the FCP meters will have to do (the output of the LHe goes direct to the Beta, so metering on the Mackie isn’t an option). Thanks for the help, Brian

This is a bit off the original topic, but I’m looking for an audio plugin that will provide more/better feedback than FCP’s built in meters. I downloaded Inspector from Roger Nichols thinking it would work, but it doesn’t. Can you suggest anything?

Unfortunately the J-10 and J-30 don’t output all 4 channels of audio over SDI simultaneously…you have to pick either 1 & 2 or 3 & 4. But the DVW-M2000 apparently will, it’s just a helluva lot more $$$ to rent.
Can anyone out there confirm that renting the DVW-M2000 will be the answer to my needs? Thanks a lot!

Will do, thanks! Unfortunately there are only two of us in the office regularly so some type of automatic shutdown would be a huge help. What if the other guy is off and I have to take a dump? Shut down the whole RAID everytime? What if I had bad shrimp?

I’ve had it for a few months, but only used it a few times. It’s excellent, especially if you ever do corporate/industrial work. I think it’s an overall steal for what you get. I customized one of their preset packages for a little extra fee and ended up with five discs of solid, ridiculously flexible music.

Thanks Stuart! What about the Mac OS’s ability to safely shutdown the RAID and the Mac? That’s really the key for me. I don’t care if I only get 10 minutes of runtime as long as the shutdown is safe and automatic if I’m out at lunch.

Thanks a lot for the advice Bob! A friend of mine down the street has a setup very similar to mine and swears by his tri-level sync generator (Evertz 7750SRG-HD I think). You mentioned such a device in your reply…do I need one? It sounds like this is necessary for HD work (which we will be doing very soon) and it would make the BSG-50 unnecessary. Is that correct?
I’ve been using a Canopus ADVC-100 for “oddball” analog ingest (VHS, random consumer camcorders, etc.) for the past 4 years, works fine. Specifically, how would the TBC help me? I apologize for my ignorance on a lot of the technical fundamentals…that’s why I’m coming to the mountain…
Also, I want to monitor my Kona video output on my Sony PVM-20L5 using component in. Currently I’m using composite in looped through the Beta (PVM-2800). Obviously not great. I think the best way to do this is use an SDI to Component converter on one of the SDI outs from the Kona. Do you agree and if so, can you suggest the best VALUE converter. Yes, you’re absolutely right, we do have a lot of great (EXPENSIVE!!!) gear here and I’ve busted my ass to make it happen. My questions are a combination of ignorance of the minute/vast technical issues associated with our line of work and the aching desire to NOT WASTE MONEY on very expensive gear!!
