I know another editor in town with a similar system, but with a different video card and different Quad-core chips. He also can only run Premiere with 4 cores turned off.

September 14, 2008 at 10:58 am in reply to: Black bars not included when exporting 4:3 footage in 16:9 projectWhen you captured the new footage, had you already set the project to 16:9? Maybe the capture was interpreted as being 16:9. I’m not a Premiere expert, but perhaps you need to capture in 4:3 and then import into a new 16:9 project. which is essentially what you did originally, because you captured outside Premiere

I haven’t had a problem with Max – or any others actually. If I limit the machine to 4 cores at boot-up, Premiere will run. This doesn’t seem like a great solution since I lose half the horse power I paid for.

I’m hoping to avoid Vista all together. Several of my other apps don’t support it. I’m hoping I can jump over Vista to whatever comes next.

Here is what I read on the Adobe site:
“While Adobe Creative Suite 3 software is natively 32 bit, these applications will run on 64-bit versions of Windows”However – the software will not run on the 32 bit version of windows on this system either. After Effects and Photoshop run fine. Here are the main system components:
Dual AMD Opteron Model 2354 (2.2 GHz) (Dual Quad−Core)
2 x 4GB DDR2−667 (8GB total)
NVIDIA Quadro FX 4600 768MBMy question remains – could the 8 cores be an issue?

Do I need to adjust the memory amounts if I select the multi-processor option? I seem to remember that the amount of memory is per processor. Am I limited to the 4 gigs AE can “see” or can I use all 8 gigs (ie: 1 gig per processor)?

I’m actually trying to get the second layer to be a different color and opacity from the first. I’m using a mask to transition the “darker” layer in to emphasize the text as the script is read. I’m sure pre-comping would work for this.

I think the confusion may be because some of those numbers take into account the full raster and some just the 4:3 image. If you are scanning photos, or using digital images, I would always use an image somewhat larger than required, and use Vegas to crop it down. One reason is that you can see exactly what will show in action and title safe, and if the image is large enough, you can add some movement. Most editing applications will suffer in rendering time if the images are too large, so getting them close to size will let you achieve shorter renders.
Hope that helps.

When I try that I end up changing the value as well. Is there a way to only change only the timing?

Glad you reminded me! I always forget all the other stuff that Excaliber does.
