I’m trying to get a second text layer to update when the primary one is changed. It works OK, until I make a tracking or kerning change. These don’t ripple through to the other layer. Anyone have any ideas?

i don’t believe that anything the character palette is accessible from expressions. you may be able to find a script that can do it, but i don’t know.

a way to make it work is to precomp the text layer (leave all attributes), then use other instances of that text precomp as needed. then as you make changes to the kerning, leading, font, etc. it will update to all the instances…

I’m actually trying to get the second layer to be a different color and opacity from the first. I’m using a mask to transition the “darker” layer in to emphasize the text as the script is read. I’m sure pre-comping would work for this.

it sounds like precomping should work, if you precomp the masked layer (leave all attributes) taht should keep all you masked data. then you can drag the text precomp in again to replace the other text layer. then there are several color adjustment layers that you could use to change the color, on of the most basic is just the fill effect, just pick a color to change the text to….
