If there is massive amount of work in London, then good for you but it would be the only place in the world in that situation.
With the lower cost of audio equipment and the DSLR era pricing has dropped causing major problems for people that have invested large amounts of money in gear, this has dropped rates.May I suggest that have a look at Facebook of ‘Freelance Sound Mixers & Recordists for TV/Film’ this will give you a good indication of the industry world wide.

Interesting idea….BUT be careful.
I mentored a young guy a few years ago, nice guy, keen, learnt well… Then he bought some gear and then undercut my price and went to my clients and effectively took over my work that I earned a living from.In a tight financial climate would I mentor again…. NO.
May I suggest become involved with low cost productions, normally student type films, develop your skills at the same rate as other film / video makers develop theirs in camera, lighting etc, become part of a film / video ‘community’ and develop your own work rather than trying to move into the work of others.
Trends of production / equipment change over time it’s good to move with the needs of the productions you partake in.Training of people when you work for the same employer is one thing but in a Freelance market why would you train your opposition?

June 3, 2013 at 3:47 am in reply to: Equipment needed to allow sound person and assistant to talk via headphonesI have used standard ‘Walkie Talkie’s’ for the a similar situation, just use a iPod ear piece or similar plugged into the radio, place it inside one of the headphone cups before you put them on your head….. seemed to work well.

Are you wrapping the Velcro ties around the cable 2 or 3 times before you stick the end down or just using a single loop?
Ive been using them for years even on VERY short cables…. never had a problem.

Have you tried unscrewing the small capsule (head of the mic) 1/2 way down the mic head is the join? Depending the climate you live in it may have corrosion on the small tag that touches the centre pin of the transducer. It might be worth gently wiping the tag, pin and thread with Isopropyl alcohol (or similar) to get rid of any corrosion or residue.
BE CAREFUL….Only gentle force is required.

Use a Dynamic mic perhaps like a Shure SM58 or 57.
Use the S/G in one channel for general FX and the Dynamic mic into the second channel. -
Let me mention my hunch, and it’s only a hunch…. The audio was recorded on a device (DSLR or CamCorder) with a 3.5mm input socket.
The input cable was incorrectly wired where the Left ch effectively only recorded the positive side of the AC wave form and the Right ch recorded the negative side of that wave form.
If that occurred it would have given the recorder a slightly lower level than normal and when the level was pushed and a peak arose it clipped (as per example posted)
I’m sure that if we were to see the other channel it would be the opposite with downward clipping.
And if LEFT and RIGHT channels were mixed there would be a phase cancellation similar to many threads discussed on this forum.As I said it’s just a hunch. But I will admit I could be wrong.

Ok can you give me more info on the record unit and the interface between the receiver and the recorder….
Would the input of the recorder be a 3.5mm socket?
Is the wave form you are showing just the Left channel?
Were you recording the mic receiver to both channels of the recorder?Let me see if my hunch is correct 😉
