Self-recording stick mic?
Was preparing for NAB where I’m going to have to do some live stand-up interviews over the week.
Thinking about gear, It suddenly struck me as kinda weird that none of the major Mic manufacturers seems to sell a simple interview mic that self-records.
I mean if Zoom can do a slim basic stereo recorder in a semi-stick form like the H1 – why isn’t there something like a long handled regular mic form factor with a decent diaphragm, some flash memory on board and a micro USB port? Doesn’t even have to be stereo, for heaven’s sake – just a solid Mono interview mic without the hassle of wires or a radio built in?
Be great for double system field recording when you have either a DSLR or even an iPhone shooting simple video but wanted to snag better audio.
Seems like an odd omission in our industry.

Not a big call for a $1400 standup mic with a built in recorder. HHb has discontiued their flash mic. Use a pocket recorder or your iphone.

As has been mentioned, the HHB mic was around and no one cared. I tried it. It was sort to cool, but limited in its use.
for your ipad or iPhone, but the headphone input, so they tell me, has a pretty big low end roll off.
Maybe a Rode iXY mic? It uses the multipin and has more linear frequency response.

This year, I’m just gonna schlepp an H4n and a EV635.
And yeah, I’d use my iPhone for audio – but I’ver already got it assigned for shooting simple video inserts.
Never imagined I’d need more than one PHONE for a trip. Sheesh.
