Thanks Bob and Alex. Referring back to my original question. What do you or others on Cow recommend as a good replacement for a Cineraid chassis BUT might use an Areca 1680? I’ve looked at every ad on Cow and it’s a daunting task.
    Thanks in advance.

    Right then, here goes.
Did you have a RAID 5 setup.
It is in fact a RAID 5.
Exactly which Areca card do you have – the 1221x, the 1680x?
    The Areca is a 1680.
Are you on a MAC ?
I did mention I was using a Mac Pro
Do you have the V1.49 Firmware on your card?
The firmware is V1.48…I haven’t discussed an upgrade with Cineraid. Didn’t know they had one. Communication is nearly always me asking Cineraid about their products. Not an issue to me however.

When you say “it failed” – did the RAID disappear, or did a drive fail?
The #2 slot indicates a drive failure. A new drive was inserted and the raid rebuilt. 4 hours later the slot indicator shows the #2 failed again. No data was lost. I have received a replacement chassis while Cineraid looks over mine. I have placed all my drives in the replacement chassis and it’s solid without errors. The last failure was diagnosed as a connection between the drive and mounting hardware in the chassis.
I’m not knocking the Cineraid as much as asking opinions on alternatives that might be in their price range. Not looking for an easy way. Just a secure way.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi John
I have the same Sonnet e-Sata setup.
When I upgraded to Leopard I was concerned that my Sonnett may need upgrading too. They do have a firmware upgrade. Since doing so I need to power my raid before I power my G5. This circumvents any freezes.

Arturo…with out a doubt SnapZPro is a gem for screen capture on a Mac. Plenty of handles and ratio choices. The files you have now act corrupted. If your not experiencing crashes with any other imports it’s the files. Open them with QuickTime and save them again.

I own one of the FreeAgent drives and it’s great. However for the price I would purchase a VoyagerQ found here: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/FWU2ESHDK/
Buy SATA drives at a fraction of the cost. If your worried the fragility of a drive buy a Protectadrive:

    Kim
About two weeks ago I too started experiencing the same issues. I trashed prefs, repaired permissions, started with a clean setup and used FCP Rescue all to no avail. What I finally tried was recalling the project that I was working on and saving it as a new project. Closed the old one and trashed it. Saved the new one again and voila…no problems. I backed up the prefs using Rescue and I’ve been rock solid until I had to recall a commercial that I had edited one month ago. Same issue. Saved the project as a new project and started over. It’s been rock solid for a week. I don’t use the recommended “Open last project on application launch” because I work on various projects in any given day. But I will if I see this happen again. I hope this helps. I had posted this problem on Apple and nobody responded. The Cow should be commended.
