You need a player with a zoom function, neither media player or QT has this if the player doesn’t see the WS flag or its not there

Stretched DV footage is usually DV Widescreen, DV WS uses the same pixel matrix as normal DV 720×480, but with a anamorphic pixel ratio, widescreen is 1.20:1 (wider than high) normal is 0.89:1 (higher than wide), so if a player doesn’t recognize the Widescreen flag the video will appear stretched vertically.

I am going to wait a bit before buying a new graphics card, There are currently 5 cards certified for CS5, supposed to be others soon, I am going to stick with my current card and use whatever extra the Mercury engine will give sans a higher end card -

If you are playing off a standard DVD player like Jeff said, 480i, if the player will do progressive then 480p, render out as 2-pass VBR max, min and target determined by the length of the video and whether or not a dual-layer, also use the “Maximum Render Quality” option but only if you have alot of ram(more than minimum sys requirement)

you can use a firewire to usb adapter, but it may not be too reliable, if your laptop has a express card slot, a firewire express card adapter can be more stable, also if your laptop has a eSata port, a external esata II harddrive can be a good asset for editing, also available for use if you have a express card slot is a Matrox MX02 mini, it has the capability for HDMI capture and HDMI playback for external video monitoring on a HDMI capable HDTV also it can capture analog from a tape player for archiving to dvd
