Importing from Canon ZR930 into CS4
Greetings Creative Cow community. I am new to CC, and editing with CS4. I’ve done some basics classes and read lots of forums and posts, but I’m having a weird problem that seems so basic, I must be missing something very simple.
I have a Canon ZR930, which is an older DV camera. It’s not great, it’s not horrible…but it is what it is. I took a few minutes of test footage last night using the camera’s widescreen setting.
I import into CS4 using DV Widescreein 44 Mhz. When I edit, the video fits the frame perfectly in the viewer window (which I know doesn’t have anything to do with export output…but still, it looks good while I’m editing).
Then, when I export to QT or MP4 using widescreen 720×480 DV NTSC, and open my QT viewer, the footage is stretched. I’ve tried fitting the clip to the frame in the timeline, and the problem is worsened.
Anyone know what I am missing? Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Stretched DV footage is usually DV Widescreen, DV WS uses the same pixel matrix as normal DV 720×480, but with a anamorphic pixel ratio, widescreen is 1.20:1 (wider than high) normal is 0.89:1 (higher than wide), so if a player doesn’t recognize the Widescreen flag the video will appear stretched vertically.

Thanks Brian. Is there a way I can fix this? Or a better player you can recommend?

You need a player with a zoom function, neither media player or QT has this if the player doesn’t see the WS flag or its not there
