the laser is a problem. Glow is too big at the bottom (because of the edges). Tube lights are rounded…
As for the bones here is a low-res test, probably the ‘eye’ should be more subdivided (or in a hyperNurb) and probably there should be more bones but hopefully it’s useful as an idea.
A Background object is a special object (Obects/Scene/Background) which is meant to be used a a sort of virtual backpane to put images (and movies) on that will always be behind whatever actual objects are in the scene. Not directly useful in for what you are talking about but it is the only way to get a movie to play frame for frame without a plugin (at least as far as I know).
Video as texture won’t play on an object but will play on a background object. I have heard you can break the video into a series of stills and that will play but I’ve tried and have had no success so if it’s possible I don’t know the trick. I think there is a plugin that will make it work (I do not know the name but it was mentioned here so perhaps a search of the Cow archived posts…)
it’s hard to know without looking at the model but… can it be re-exported from Maya as a .obj (which *might* be better)? Otherwise if the dxf is needlessly complex it will take a lot of work to clean it up and it might be easier to rebuild it yourself or remove parts and replace them in Cinema. As I say it’s hard to know without seeing it.
The align to spline expression keeps one vector tangential and one ‘up’ (that may actually be down but it remains consistant). Use a rail spline to get the ‘up’ to point where you want.
