go for Quadrangles/Regular Grid ‘small enough’ – my quick testing at that scale was somewhere around 2 but that would depend on the final way you put that together.

depends on the look you are going for, you could also put your borders in with textures

oh yeah, and all of that is likely way easier in Illustrator

138,000+ points !!!Way!!! too complex. 🙂 every border is 4 lines and every country has a border. every border should be two lines max and they should be identical (check out 1/2 (approx) along Canada/US border what is that error? — not to mention the African borders) it looks like every country was done separately then they put in the extra border lines to hide the mistakes (or maybe they knew the border lines were going in so they didn’t have to be too accurate (it’s still a pretty detailed job all in all)) …and the extra border lines are not one/country (check out Africa). If you need the countries take out all the extra border lines and see what happens. If you want only the landmass areas and borders are not really important take out everything except the coastlines and join the parts together – easy for North America not so easy everywhere else…

couldn’t hurt, as I said can’t tell without seeing it if you have the obvious stuff covered.

Caps are usually there by default with an Extrude but it needs a closed spline (or spline segment) for that to happen

Flat. You’d have to line the flat texture up with the Background object (with texture tools) to match the Frontal projection on the Background object, then Assign UVW coordinates.

That’s normal behavior, if you load via the file menu you get the entire scene, if you load via the Materials Manager you get only the materials of the scene. The probable reason the material was black is that it couldn’t find the images involved (assuming there are images). You can do a couple things, either go through the material and find where the images are used and reconnect them by browsing for the image (the name will be there but the path will be wrong) or you can put the images somewhere central (the tex folder perhaps) and add a path in Preferences/Texture Paths to point to that folder so C4D can find the images without help.

those are not material presets they are materials so use Load Materials and choose the c4d file. The various jpegs will be found automatically if they are in the same folder or if you put them somewhere that’s pointed to in Preferences/Texture Paths
