it can be done with Sketch and Toon, turn off the background color render and turn off the Toon Shading and make an edge selection of the edges you want to be black then use the selection to limit the S&T to only that. Depends on how thick the line is since the thicker it is the more it looks like it’s floating above the surface.

otherwise I think UV mapping and painting the line where you want it

maybe use an up vector with the clones but that’s only a maybe (have you tried turning off Fix Clone?). Given your familiarity with formulas perhaps you could create the spring as a whole object and then use a Formula Deformer on it (but I am not familiar with formulas – beyond the dead simple stuff – so you would know far better than I)

it’s easy to do when you are moving a scene around trying to work something out

this is one way, clone the top onto the trunk (trunk needs to be editable) so the bend doesn’t affect it.

in the force tab of the rigid body tag on the dangling object, increase Angular Damping or Drag in Aerodynamics, more fine control there (or both)

that doesn’t include the jpegs for the color/luminance/alpha channels but those are just jpegs so are not a video file which would be one way to animate the fire. Animating the fire planes would be another way particularly in combination with an animated texture… there are more possibilities but what I’m seeing doesn’t seem to have any of the telltale signs that would make me think ‘animated’ that I can see.

without seeing the fireplace models or the place you got them from etc (more info) it’s really hard to tell.

  • percent in nodes (xpresso) always runs from 0 – 1 so in between whatever node you are driving with and the align tag percent you need a range mapper node – this is one possible way
