[Steve Freebairn] “You can record it to a hard drive. Yes, 1 minute is 1 gig.”
Fellas, I have been monitoring this group for months and I believe you may be getting a misimpression. The way I understand it – to date – you can offload data of any resolution from the p2 card(s) to a portable hard drive by firewire but you cannot do it while you are shooting. The data goes to the P2; you fill it up; then you off load it to the drive and then you clear the P2 and continue.
I think we all want the ability to record directly to drive but this has not been implemented as of yet – if ever.
For me, it is not a deal killer because for the value I will derive from this camera I can take the time to off load the video to a portable hard drive. I mostly shoot commercials.Brian FitzGerald

[Chad Kappeler] “Is there something wrong here or were my expectation too high?”
I appreciate what the other guys are saying with regard to the upgrading of your video card but before you spend more money, take a look at these articles and they may provide you a solution. I found them very useful as they show better how Motion handles graphics. If you are not paying attention to the way it crunches data you will run out of processor/RAM real quick. This might be what you need:

Dear SpecialCase,
Immediately after reading your post I went and dl’ed the demo and “sales presentation” movies and watched them. I tried the demo out on their green screen examples and then on some of mine. It seems to work pretty good. I am downloading the paid version right now.I believe this will be a life-changing experience for me.
Thanks for the tip!By the way, I am 95% committed to buying the upcoming Panasonic 200 camera that will put me in a 4:2:2 colorspace (DVCPro 50) and also allow me to transition to HD. It is supposed to be available in Nov or Dec and if you have any interest in this camera I will be able to answer any questions from a user standpoint after I get it in my hands.

[specialcase] “The folks at DV Garage have released a Motion-native version of DVMatte. It keys DV very nicely and it’s lickety-split quick. It’s also quite cheap.
Check it out at ” target=”_blank”>https://www.dvgarage.com/prod/prod.php?prod=dvmatteb”
Dear SpecialCase,
Thanks for the heads-up I am going there to check it right now.Brian FitzGerald

Although I cannot answer the questions posed so far in this thread I can vouch somewhat for “Cool Drives”.
Although I don’t own the two devices Steve F has shown us above, I own two of their Firewire 800 enclosures that have functioned perfectly for the last two or so years.
In general, I have been using enclosures and “building” my own Firewire drives for years (before that SCSI drives…) and it has saved me a lot of money.
I’m am eagerly looking forward to a response to this thread’s questions from Jan, too.As a side note, I am committed to buying the 200. Do we have a solid release date yet?

The original question was “Are the AJ-PCS060G and AJ-PCS060G P2 drives compatable with Mac. According to Panasonic they work with Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Is there a Mac solution?”
I am a 20+ year Mac Only user and one queing up to buy the 200… Is it not correct that we will be able to download files to our Macs from the P2 cards by hooking the camera up by Firewire or USB2? I am pretty sure that was stated in this P2 group a month or so ago.
In other words, you don’t need the AJ-PCS060G and AJ-PCS060G P2 drives to get to work as soon as the camera arrives on the market – right?

[Andrew Kramer] “Why not use “keylight” to create your matte?”
Dear Andrew,
Thanks for your reply. I have never seen Keylight in the basic menu so I assume it is a 3rd party plug-in.
I will take a look at it if you can tell me who makes it. I did a web search but came up empty.Brian FitzGerald
