Interesting… I was hoping for a technical details page on that, but oh well. Nice to see that BH thinks they will be able to ship some first run units in September though. I’m assuming this package is with the two 8gb P2 cards? Also interesting to note, no mention of miniDV or a tape transport at all.

How do we know this for sure since no formal annoucement has been made by Panasonic either way? Does anyone have a link or Panasonic statement that supports or denies the claims in this report?

taking a look at this webpage of the DVCPRO HD P2 partners doesn’t make me feel confident that Adobe is working on it at all…

thanks, I didn’t know the individual product page was updated. funny how no one mentioned 1080/30p in all the reviews though… is anyone besides myself really looking forward to this? I mean, until now we only had 1080/60i with the Sony cameras, this 1080/30p is really going to make a beautiful image.

I have found a “review” of this camera online that says the camera will be just under $6000 and not include any P2 cards which will run you $1700 for a 4GB card. I’d still like to hear an official word from Panasonic about this though. I can’t imagine their marketing not wanting to ship at least 1 4GB card with this camera to get people onto the P2 bandwagon.

Yes, Panasonic has said 1080/30p in the past as well, but from the reports that I am hearing from the folks at NAB, there has been no mention of 1080/30p yet.
I just watched a promotional video from Panasonic that touted the HVX200 as a 1080i / 1080p / 720p camera, so from the looks if it, we are still getting 1080/30p in this camera. I just thought it was odd that no one mentioned it so far in all the reports…

Wow, it looks like you are definately right on this one. I just looked at external Maxtor OneTouch and Maxtor OneTouch II drives at the 250GB capacity and they are retailing for about $220 (shipping included in this price) online right now. This works out to $.88 per gig raw and unformatted or about $.96 per gig of formatted, useable space. On one of these drive you would be able to hold about 4.75 hours of DVCPRO-HD footage which works out to about $46.32 per hour of DVCPRO-HD footage that you are archiving on the hard drive. Cheaper than DVCPRO-HD tape? Yes, and it probably will be even cheaper in the future. Still expensive? Right now, yeah, this is a bit expensive for many of us that shoot 4-6 hours of footage in a production day. But in the end, are our clients willing to pay this additional price for “low-cost” HD/HDV acquisition? Some of mine would be willing, but this would really prevent some of them from even thinking of this HD/HDV solution for the sole fact that they shoot so much footage.
To put this into a bit more perspective…
Right now I am getting standard name brand DVD-R discs (4.7gb capacity) for about $.40 per disc (when on-sale) which works out to about $.09 per gig.(note: all the prices above are USA dollars as of April 13, 2005)
