Activity Forums Panasonic Cameras Will AG-HVX200 come with any P2 cards when priced at about $6000?

My understanding is no — $5,995 buys you a camcorder sans P2 cards. The 8-GB card should be available by the time the camera ships and is projected to cost about $2,000.

I have found a “review” of this camera online that says the camera will be just under $6000 and not include any P2 cards which will run you $1700 for a 4GB card. I’d still like to hear an official word from Panasonic about this though. I can’t imagine their marketing not wanting to ship at least 1 4GB card with this camera to get people onto the P2 bandwagon.

Since the AG-HVX200 won’t ship for several months, a lot can happen between now and then.

It’s entirely possible Panasonic might decide later to bundle one or more P2 cards with the cam by the time it ships. In marketing, nothing’s really set in stone until the boxes are shipped to retailers, and even then “deals” can change and be “sweetened” with coupons, rebates, special promotions, and so forth.

To the best of my knowledge the current MSRP for the cam does not include a P2 card, but that fact — like a lot of details, including hardware specs — is subject to change and competitive pressure.

    All the best,

Has anyone said how much HD will fit on an 8GB card?

[Mitch Ives] “Has anyone said how much HD will fit on an 8GB card?”

If I’m not mistaken, Jan Crittendon said yesterday (on DVXUser.com?) that in 720p 24fps mode up to 20 minutes fits on a 8GB P2 card because frame-flagging lets them record only the “24” frames. In 1080 modes, less data fits per GB, because the frames are not flagged the same way.

I don’t believe it’s been definitively determined if the above is handled differently when recording to harddrive instead of P2. For example, it might depend on the HDD interface & protocol used, drive speed, and so forth.

I hope I’ve quoted Jan correctly & the HDD info is right; someone please correct me if I’ve gotten this wrong, thanks.

These capacities have been posted in lower posts and I believe also on the panasonic web site.
