What you need is a track matte.

If you see the transparency grid then the render should be fine.
You won’t see transparency until you composite the rendered with other footage either in After Effects or your NLE.

Did you render RGB + Alpha? or only Alpha?

You could create the sphere from 3D text layers, parent them to a null and have them auto orient to the camera.

If your shot has no camera movement it will be easy.
Add an Adjustment layer above your footage and mask the layer to match the monitor frame (or the area you wish to color correct). Then apply the color correction as you normally would (curves, hue saturation, exposure or Color Finesse etc).
If there is camera movement you’ll need to track the shot first, ideally using Mocha, if you have AE CS4 or above it shipped with it.

You can set the Work Area using the B and N Keys and then trim the Comp to the Work Area.
Select the trimmed layer and press the i key on the keyboard to go to the layer’s In Point, then press the letter B to set the Beginning of the Work Area.
Press the letter o to move to the layer’s Out Point and then press the letter N to set the end of the Work Area.
Now right click in the area above the timeline and select Trim Comp to Work Area.
