Darby, did you buy a Mac version or a standard PC Card? I’m hoping to do the same and have been looking at EFI flashed cards on eBay. Which brand did you buy? Any problems finding the power connectors?

There’s no way to see Layer Styles (or for that matter Shape properties) other than the Timeline, however you could apply the Transform Effect (Effects > Distort > Transform) which gives you access to all geometrics and more.

I’m running 10.6.8 on my MacPro without any problems, I wonder whether your issue is with a driver or some AE preference.

If you’re going to spring for a new video card, look at the nVidia cards with CUDA that are certified for CS6. You’ll see a dramatic improvement in performance for Ray Tracing and rendering. Limited selection for the Mac and not inexpensive.

On Ebay you can find PC versions of the cards that are flashed for the Mac to work with the EFI boot. I have no experience with these at all but most reviewers seem to like them.

You’ll note that the ability to activate/deactivate OpenGL isn’t in the CS6 preferences any longer. Nor is it in the Comp viewer settings.

My understanding is that the new Fast Draft is OpenGL always on. You may need to adjust your Fast Preview Preferences and lower the Adaptive Resoulution limit.

I’ve had such a positive experience so far with CS6 on my MacPro, though I have the 2010 model and a different video card.

There have been many refinements and additions to the After Effects UI over the years. If I’m not mistaken, the arrow referred to in the above text refers to what is now known as the disclosure triangle.

The old UI, circa After Effects 4 or 5 (not CS5, CS 6 is actually version 11 by the old nomenclature) had a speed graph and limited control over keyframes, the new UI has the Graph Editor. To reveal it click on the keyframed property name (Scale for example) then click the Graph Editor icon.

I’m not seing this behavior, though I’ve disabled “Use System Shortcut Keys” in General Preferences.

In other words, I’m getting the expected behavior.

If you earn your living working with After Effects, I’d say a resounding yes – the most significant upgrade in years.

Like Ted, I don’t have an nVidia card, yet the faster rendering, cacheing,3D tracker alone are worth it. I’ve rendered projects in literally half the time as CS5.5.

The disk cache speeds up workflow, I’ve put mine on a separate SSD.

MacPro 12 Core, 32 GB RAM.
