    Hello Michael,

Since I am very new to the camera, I am still learning which settings to use as a “base” from which to adjust. Agreed, there are many settings, from ISO to iris to ND. I would tend to start with a low ISO if possible for better noise control. Of course, some of your settings would be different if you want, for instance, a shallow DOF. It would be helpful if there were some basic tips for run & gun.

    Thanks,

    Brian

I found the answer in the menu under video output. I had it switched to HDMI but the HDMI/SDI setting also needed to be switched to the 4k setting.

The issue still exists. I have not sent it in to Sony because I cannot go without a camera for 1 month plus. I have to back off from full zoom in order to keep it from going soft. Since other users do not seem to have this issue, I assume it is not a very common problem.

    Don,

Thanks for your input. I am familiar with the backfocus procedure as well as light requirements when shooting. Still, with shooting outside in sun, I am needing to use a ND filter (the other option, which I have not tried is to increase my shutter speed). I will attempt to redo the backfocus and see if it helps.

Thanks for your post. It is definitely out of focus and not due to atmospheric issues. Your comment about adjusting the shutter as opposed to using the ND filters is interesting.

    Best,

Thank you for your suggestions. I was able to do another test and when I changed the sequence settings in Final Cut to 1920×1080 (HDTV 1080i) it all worked.

Thanks for the reply. I did try taking my self contained movie and then put it through compressor using recommended settings for uploading to vimeo (I followed a tutorial exactly). I still get occasional stutters when I play the resulting file.

This leads me to the question: Is this a problem with my player? I have also copied the file over to my Mac Book Pro and still get a stutter–again, during movement such as pans & pull outs, but not quite as bad as my desktop (Mac G5 PowerPC).

    Thanks.

Sorry for the confusion. I edited my original sequence in Pro Res 422 HQ. I then made a self-contained QT file of the finished program. This file plays fine.

Now, to upload to the web, I need to make a Quicktime movie in H.264. To do this I take my self-contained QT file and File Save using Quicktime conversion using the settings I indicated. This is where my problem is.

Could this be a problem with the bitrate? I have been advised to keep it at 5000kbs.

The codec I need to deliver it in is H.264, which is what I used in the Quicktime settings when I made the file.

Thanks for the information on Episode. Do you have any comparison experience between Episode and CS 3/4 or Sorenson Squeeze? i.e. the quality of the Flash file–is it better than these other programs?

    Many thanks!
