Quicktime movie stutters
When I make a quicktime movie in 1280 x720 HD for the purpose of uploading on the web, I am noticing a slight stutter when I play the file. The stutter is most apparent during pans and pullouts/pushins.
The proceedure I follow is 1. Make a self-contained QT file. 2. Place the above file on a new timeline and then Save As Quicktime movie using QT conversion. I use current frame rate, key frames All, data rate Automatic, quality Best (multi-pass), and deinterlace.
Any suggestions or solutions to this problem?

The codec I need to deliver it in is H.264, which is what I used in the Quicktime settings when I made the file.

Sorry for the confusion. I edited my original sequence in Pro Res 422 HQ. I then made a self-contained QT file of the finished program. This file plays fine.
Now, to upload to the web, I need to make a Quicktime movie in H.264. To do this I take my self-contained QT file and File Save using Quicktime conversion using the settings I indicated. This is where my problem is.
Could this be a problem with the bitrate? I have been advised to keep it at 5000kbs.

Don’t put the file back into FCP. Go to Compressor and do the H264 conversion from your self contained QT movie that you exported.
You have much better control over data rates, resizing, deinterlacing (*if required) etc in Compressor. There are lots of good presets to start with. Change one to suit the data rate and frame size you need and then save it for next time.
QT conversion is poor quality by comparison and it forces you to set parameters each time unlike your saved preset in Compressor. Also in Compressor you can use QMaster to set up multi core rendering which is much faster encoding than QT conversion.

Thanks for the reply. I did try taking my self contained movie and then put it through compressor using recommended settings for uploading to vimeo (I followed a tutorial exactly). I still get occasional stutters when I play the resulting file.
This leads me to the question: Is this a problem with my player? I have also copied the file over to my Mac Book Pro and still get a stutter–again, during movement such as pans & pull outs, but not quite as bad as my desktop (Mac G5 PowerPC).
