Or maybe it could just render in the background during unused computer cycles. Which is about 90% of the time the computer is on. Even the new Avid Liquid (formerly pinnacle) does this! It seems to me that a funciton like that would be about as hard to implement as autosave…. hmmm… if there have been no actions in 10 seconds, begin render all. Then, when a mouse moves or a key is clicked it would be the same effect as hitting cancel. How hard is that?

Put the flicker filter on max on all your stills too.

It also means you probably use a PC in your other life, and hit ctrl+z to undo something. Which in FCP is the shortcut to turn on range check.

mpeg2 isn’t a useable edit format, since it doesn’t contain individual frames, just interpolated frames.
But it seems you’ve answered your own question. Since the red looks good as mpeg2, and you’re exporting to mpeg2 when you’re done, then just use the crappy red, knowing it will look good when exported to mpeg2 when you’re done.
Obviously the mpeg2 encoding process is limiting the chroma or brightness in some way, fixing the red color that is out of spec. You could hook up some scopes and figure out just what the issue is with the red.

Shadows would be added with the motion tab. Choose outline text generator if you want border text.
But the FCP text generator is pretty simplistic. Try the Boris text generator adn you can have multiple colors, multiple fonts, tracking, kerning, gradients, glows, etc.
It’s still not a wysiwyg editor like, well, anyone else, but it’s useable.
All the text generation in FCP is more akin to text in After Effects 3,4, or 5 – not other video editing text generators. I wish we could have a wysiwyg editor like in Avid for basic lower 3rds, slates, etc.

High Speed DSL. DSL is actually so far behind cable now. Cable is easily 4mb/sec these days with DSL sticking around 2. But here in Atlanta they’re starting to advertise 7mb/sec and I’ve heard of testing 11mb/sec in some areas.
None of this would make a difference on your page. I think your page might load instantaneously on a cell phone. Almost.

I guess you figured it out. It loads in less than a second for me in Safari on a cable connection. The rollovers are loaded faster than I can move my mouse to them.

Nah. You’d have to export it as an image sequence or a quicktime.

Yeah, even the crummy mpeg 2 over dish network is about 3mb/sec. 1.5 would be pretty unviewable. ESPECIALLY after it takes another mpeg hit for dish, directv, tivo units, etc.

An even more effective method is to copy the new clip from the bin (or wherever). Highlight the old clip and right click and choose paste attributes. Choose to paste the media. In this way it swaps out the footage, but leaves the filters and keyframes intact.
FCP can do weird things when you paste keyframes. It seems to put them wherever it wants.
