Dumb eh?
(I mean, at what point in the programming stage, did a rocket scientist say: “No, we don’t need to alert the user to the fact that their render is ready”???)Add it to the wishlist …

November 23, 2005 at 3:55 amMr. Workaround sez:
I keep a small digital kitchen timer ($4-5 at Wal-Mart) next to my keyboard.
If its a longish render, I tap in the time (the timer has “direct entry) and it will beep at me at the end of the time set.
I know the “render thermometer” can be inaccurate, but if you wait a couple of minutes after it starts (again, if this is a long render) you can get a close idea.
I can take the timer with me so I can go grab a coke or make a phone call and be alerted when the render is (approximately) done.

November 23, 2005 at 4:13 amOr maybe it could just render in the background during unused computer cycles. Which is about 90% of the time the computer is on. Even the new Avid Liquid (formerly pinnacle) does this! It seems to me that a funciton like that would be about as hard to implement as autosave…. hmmm… if there have been no actions in 10 seconds, begin render all. Then, when a mouse moves or a key is clicked it would be the same effect as hitting cancel. How hard is that?
